Don't waist your money on the Hella kit.

I have had a Hella e-code kit on a daily driver Honda and it wasn't much better than running a set of Sylvania Xtra vision sealed beams.Mind you at a lot more cost.
Not impressed with it for the cost. The beam pattern is not that good.Overpriced garbage IMHO :o

If you can hunt a set down the Cibie E code stuff is really good.
You might give this guy a try. This is where I got my Cibie stuff.

are your headlights hotwired?

Hotwired??

I don't know what you mean by that.

On the same site they provide a wiring diagram that I followed. It replaces the stock thin wire and adds an inline fuse. This allows a higher supply of voltage/amp's so you can use a brighter bulb in both the low beams and the high's.

Cost's a bit but works great.

I'll see if I can find the link for the wiring diagram.

When I drive at night I take vision seriously.

That was easy.

They still have the same diagram info up, check it out

I bought Cibie E-Code lenses,Narva bulbs, and Hella heavy duty fuses from them.I bought the wire and connectors from the local Auto store.Solder everything and use shrink tubing.
Use of a simple crimp connection is a joke and is a sure source of problems to come.

It made a big difference on my Honda.I even had one person in a new Porsche with HID lights checking it out.
He came up speeding on the freeway passed me and then slowed down allowing me to catch him, when he was even with me he was trying to check out my beam pattern,HID is much brighter so he could probably only see a little bit of it,he cut his lights and observed. He then turned his lights back on and sped away.To me it looked like we had much the same beam pattern but his were very blue and bright. On Sterns sight he talks about this too.Look around there, much info.

My Honda only had the standard set up with one headlight controlling both the low and high beam.I shudder to think what it would have bean like with a seperate light for each :D

Like I said they aren't as good as the HID set up,but they coste much less.A "Real" HID set up costs in the  1000+ range.

Don't bother with the cheap HID conversion kits available, they aren't good, might as well just install a set of crappy Pia Super White bulbs in it if you wan't that, they look...Well, blue. And yea I tried those too.

The real deal will cost big time.

i made the hotwire kit the week i found it, ordered everythign from delcity online.. 10 gauge wire is a bitch to solder! just wondering if you had done it as well. i'll look into the cibies :)

Yea I replaced the wires with 10 gauge and I solderd everything.

It can be a pain

do you have the cibies with the parking light option?

just wondering how it looks... right now i have some diamond cut hosuings with horrible beam patterns.. but i love the parking light bulb, it just looks neat :)

No I don't.

The engine blew in the old Hondo and I got rid of it.
I pulled the lights and the sold the body to a kid.

I was driving a Nisan Sentra that didn't allow any mody to the lighting due to the weird ass lenses.

I am about to get a 79 El Camino on the road that I will install the lenses in and have my lighting back.

I'll tell you what, when you go from those lights to the stuff they made from the 50's to the late 80's, there is no comparison.

thats an apples to oranges comparison (honda to g-body). going from the the stock sealed beam xtra visions on my GN to the hella lenses and bulbs with "hotwire" kit was a HUGE improvement. night driving is so much better. i feel the beam pattern is vastly improved, yet wont blind on coming traffic. i liked it so much, i put the same thing on my monte ss.

for the record, i used sylvania xtravisions then tried the silverstars. whiter light, but still the same poor pattern. then tried the hella's. pricey compared to sealed beams? yes, but well worth it imo for night driving.

the guy selling it here is the one i bought both my sets from. got lenses, bulbs and adapters. do a search for hella in the classifieds and his posts should come up. cant recall his name off hand.

As long as the size of the lights and available current are the same it doesn't matter what vehicle the lights are in, it will produce the same amount of light.

In other words if I take the lights out of my Honda and install them into my El Camino they are going to produce the same amount of light.

I compared the Sylvania Xtravisions,Maxtell,Hella E-Code,and Cibie-E code.There was another one but I can't remember the name.

All on the same car all using the same diameter lights, and all had bean what you guys call Hot Wired with 10 gauge wire.

E-Code has a MUCH BETTER beam pattern than any sealed beam that is "legal" in the USA.

Cibie and Hella being the best of what I have tried, with Cibie coming out on top IMHO.

In the end purchase what you want.

yea.. think im gonna go with the cibie low/high's from daniel stern.. and some cheapo hi beams..

unless i can get ahold of regallimited to get the hella set minus bulbs and wiring harnesses.. hmmm

thanks crazed 1. very helpful!

I just need the hella housings. Two H1s and Two H4s. Mine got busted when that Nova crossed into my lane. Amazingly, the bulbs are still good, and I have the adapters.

Housings?

You mean lenses :)

If you are stuck on Hella and can't find what you want online you might try the local Truck accessory place.
That is where I got my Hella stuff.
