Looking at purchasing a 1993 GMC Typhoon as my first car. Car comes with a lot of things i am looking for in a car without a new car price tag. Anyone know areas of regular maintenance issues? Any feedback positive or negative is greatly appreciated

I bought my 93 Typhoon new in 93. It's been pretty much my daily driver, and now has 153,000 pretty much trouble free miles. It is bone stock, the best way in my opinion for a Syclone or Typhoon to stay if you want to use it as a regular driver. As far as maintenace, nothing out of the ordinary, just make sure the oil is changed regulary, I use Mobil 1 Synthetic since I bought it. I used one for a daily driver for about two years. No real problems. The only thing I can think of is the intercooler pump quit working but I traced it down to wiring. They respond well to mods. I put an ATR 3" exhaust, chip, K&N filter and a cooler thermostat on mine. Surprised a bunch of people in stoplight to stoplight action. I say go for it.

a friend of mine he bought about a year ago (it's a clone) it has the correct drivetrain, and interior, in a new body. you could probably get it at a good deal. has fuel pump, Mccoy cold air, new tune up, larger intercooler hoses. he now has a company truck.
yup they will break if not the motor the trans will for sure and if not the trand the transfer case will and when you start making some power the axles will start to go then you have to go with a bowtie block because the block starts to crack, just with any awd/4x4 car/truck lots of power with no slippage will break something. when you get to the point i am at solid motor mounts, solid steering shaft 18"s "to clear brakes" with drag tires all round the ride is rough and pulls in groves in the road. i loved it stock "chip, afpr, ic pump only mods" going to the track 2 times a week running 13.1s and going home, no race fuel no changing tires nothing, just pushing a button to change the chip settings and off i went.
The SyTy's don't respond to mods as well as turbo Regals. Unless you do your research well, you can screw up one on no time just throwing mods at it. Most dealerships don't have anyone who knows how to work on them either, not that I ever leave mine alone with anyone. There's only 1 dealership mechanic in my area that I trust mine with, and he used to own the same Typhoon that Warp6 had. If you want it just for fun, play with mods all you like. If you want it reliable daily vehicle that is totally fun to drive, leave it stock
