Frame repair washers

for egged out body bushing holes in the frame. All I know about them is they can be welded or just slipped in with the bushings. I would prefer welding. I know I'm not the only one that has dealt with this at some point in time.

This is what i will be doing when i get my washers. 1) Clean the rust to bare metal. 2) Get some Dykem layout fluid (i work in a machine shop so it is easy for me to get) and spray it on (let dry) 3) lay the washer on the frame and do the best that you can to center it to the oringinal hole. 4) Take a scribe or awl to scribe around the washer. 5) When you remove the washer their should be a circle. 6) grind to that scribe line and then weld in the washer. If their is any one else that has a better way please help because g-body parts just sent mine out to day.

I was thinking about emailing them to get a step by step. I am a novice when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Hey guys, I didn't use the frame washers you are referring to to fix the holes in my frame, but I get the idea of what they look like. I would say, clean all the rust/paint off the area...like there is any paint on a 20+ year old G body frame!! LOL Sorry, I lost my head for a minute.:D Anyway, clean it up and I would think you could just weld them right on the top with out grinding or cutting anything. As long as they are lined up with the original holes. If you aren't doing it to every hole on the frame, the most you would have to do is use a big flat washer on the other holes to shim the rest of the body to set even. FWIW

Well here is some picks. I hope this helps out it is the steps that i explaned before. No i got no directions with my repair washers. Not welded in yet that will come this weekend. I hope.

Looks good….but don’t forget to grind the edges to allow the weld to penetrate the two parts….it will look like a “V”…..also get a couple of magnets to hold them at the proper heights when you tack them in ….remove the magnets and finish your welding….. now you wont be grinding all your weld away…hope this helps…regards

What are you using to cut the frame out? Just wondering what works cause I don't have a plasma cutter or any of that fun stuff:frown:

just grinding stones that i put in a drill. make shure that they are hard stones. Using files too. Dont feel bad for not having the good stuff. I dont myself. Nasesity is the mother of invention!! You might be able to use a jig saw to help out.

well here are the rest of the picks of how i did my repair on the holes i hope this helps you out usetaboost. so i dont want to over run this thread so i will stop typing and finnish up the last 2 holes that i got. latter:p ya i know my welding is just a little nasty looking(been a while) but it will hold!

Thanks! I got to clean the garage to day, got to make room before winter hits. I will try to get more picks of the work tomarrow, if i get the chance to work on the frame.

I haven't hd much time to really start much lately. went job hunting last week, kid started school, wife got allergic reaction to suntan lotion, then the weekend came which was spent doing fam stuff/hanging out, and I'll probably end up working 12 hour days all week. I'll get to it someday;)

Just received my repair washers!

 Quick question, once i put an angle on the washers is that enough penetration for the weld?

ya it will be plenty but do not have your setting on the welder to hot it will burn holes.
