Are there any differences between the GN trannys and the MC SS's?

I was told that I needed either a Grand National unit or one from a Monte Carlo SS for the build. If theyre not from either one of those applications, then its not worth building. Whats the differences between the 2? The only other one that I was told of that would work is out of an Olds Hurst, but theyre rare. Thanks

the valve bodies are basically identical,but the 86 87 gn has a bigger servo,boost valves ,governor gear and straps in the front and rear planetaries.also the tv plunger is different.as far as rare i have over 100 of these valve bodies so it depends on who you ask.

I understand that the TR valve body tranny is a BRF code, am I correct to assume the the Monte SS is a CRF code??

ss monte is cq and cz and the non ho ss is cr.
