Should I wire brush the threaded parts of the studs to remove the black oxide finish.

I usually do but i doubt it matters much since i re-torque them 4-5 times on the engine stand and let them sit over night and re-torque again. The multiple re-torques should polish the threads enough. Then one more time after it has seen some moderate boost and has cooled down completely. I will sometimes do one more re-torque after te car has seen some high cylinder pressures also.

What about the threads that screw into the block?

Should I wire brush both the fine and the coarse if I decide to wire brush them?

Just the fine threads where the nuts are pulling on them.

???

Just the fine threads where the nuts are pulling on them.

Funny... everywhere I've read says otherwise (Headstud installation article). Even so I don't believe this step is necessary. I did not grind off the coating on mine and I'm not getting leakage. I asked my friends who build engines and at my local machine shop and they said they never heard of people doing this. I also created a thread on this site asking why people do it, assuming it was because the sealant would bond to the threads better with bare metal ,and nobody seemed to know for sure why it is done... I think the most critical part is making sure the threads are clean, on the block and the stud, and using a good teflon sealant like loctite 567.

I don't do nothing to mine. But clean the holes in block and make they don't have any antifreeze or oil on them then put silicone on threads and screw in till hand tight. That is how I install the studs.

Then for the nuts and washers I use their assembly paste on both.

I doubt it matters since you are re-torqing several times and polishing the threads more and more each time you re-torque.

What is the thread pattern on the end that goes into the block. What size thread chaser is what I'm getting at.
