I figured I would put some info up about the ATI balancers. I searched and searched before I bought one and found very little info here. I know most like the BHJ, but I prefer an ATI.

There are a bunch of options for the ATI. ATI - Super Dampers® for Buick Engines

6.325" OD or 7.074" OD. Dry sump length hub or standard length. The standard length is needed if your running a stock style front cover and oil pump, but a stock pulley will not bolt up to it, nor does it have a crank trigger. It uses a sbc pulley bolt pattern 3 on 3.2" bolt circle. I'm running a stage 2 front cover, so I went with the dry sump length hub with a 7" balancer. It just barely clears the stage 2 cover and I might even have the smallest amount of clearancing below the water pump to make it fit. Since the balancer is so large it takes a custom pointer, but if your at the point of needing a high dollar balancer, you shouldn't rely on a stock timing pointer regardless.

There aren't a lot of options for crank triggers. You might be able to adapt a stock ring to the stock length hub setup. MSD sells a univeral crank trigger kit that takes a fair amount of machine work to adapt. Race Proven motors makes a Chevy v6 kit and you could buy just the trigger wheel, but it's pretty expensive. I made my own, or rather, I had a friend cut me a blank on his cnc machine and I broached it for the MSD magnets. I'll be making a sensor mount that bolts on the front cover where the stock crank trigger sensor would normally go.

Good info Mike. I'm looking for one for a Danny-Bee set-up with an external oil pump. Internal balance, with the magnets installed... Got one laying around??:D Phil.

The S2 I just bought has an ATI Balancer on it. I can post a pic on how it's mounted. I may be taking it off to srat the engine with the Ca, Sensor after it's refreshed.

Mike,
I like the ATI and think it is a better balancer than the BHJ but I already had a new BHJ otherwise I would've bought one for my new motor. I have an ATI crank mandrel if you need one.

Phil, call Dan at DLS on the set up for a Danny Bee belt drive. He is pretty much building all the accessories, oil pump and crank tirgger and distributor set up for my motor now. Might be easy for him to make two of everything. Unfortunately I don't have the mad machinist skills or tools MeanMike does, lol.

Thanks Chris.. If you have a number, could you PM me it? Thanks!! Phil.

I don't have any extra around. I looked for a used one for a while, but I finally broke down and bought one new. It was around $430 straight from ATI. They reccomend the 7" for anything over ~800hp. Mine is part number 918570 and would be what you would need for the belt drive unless you need to space the accessories further out for some reason.

I also wanted to put the magnets in the balancer, but without having a balancer here I couldn't tell them where to put the magnets. I can tell you now that with the balancer at 60btdc (crank ref. angle) and a sensor mounted where the stock sensor goes, my first magnet is at the 120 (2nd @ 240, 3rd at 0) degree mark on the balancer. I will most likely end up slotting the holes in trigger wheel a little and using 50 for the crank reference angle.

Here is a pic of my balancer next to a stocker. The stock oil pump length hub is about 1" longer if I remeber correctly. ATI will give the dimensions of both if you call.

Thanks for the offer, but I'll probably make my own mandrel also with a v-belt incorporated for the alternator. I've made everything else, what's a crank mandrel at this point.

I'm a believer in the ATI damper, also. Here are some pics of my setup. Maybe someone can get an idea from it for their own adaptation. The crank pulleys are from CV Products.
