ATR wastgate help needed

working on a 87 GN. last thing left is to get the boost set. got the vacuum lines hooked in the "closed loop" method,no adjustment knob. set screw all the way out without any tension on the spring. car starts out with 15lbs in first,then in second and third starts creeping up. new vacuum lines installed .my guess its a 17lb spring or higher? anywhere i can buy a 15lb?
 
Springs were #14, #18 # 24
I had all 3 but now I have the 18 and 24.
Open up your WG hole but just a little.

thanks for the help,looks like ive got the #24:eek: . open up where the puck seats?
 
ATR gate has no "puck hole"...
From my experience, that gate is a exercize in futility.
I had mine "factory modified" at ATR.. Still was junk.
Sent it to John Craig.. Still poor performance.
Found that the valve head had leaked so much, that the exh gas had eaten the "seat" off the flange.
Took it off, modded the DP for an Innovate, and never looked back.
Furthermore, Phil @ ATR said DO NOT attempt to adjust the gate w/ the screw.....
 
I fought with mine for a long time until I put a TIAL 38mm WG. It cost a few pennies but I have rock solid boost at whatever I set it at.

Get the "silver" valve. It is lead safe if you ever run race gas.
 
All true...I am still running the ATR. Soon to be removed for better and bigger..:D

if this was my car i would go with a TIAL, but what can i do,to keep the boost down to 15* so he can finally drive his car this weekend?
can i run the vacuum line from turbo out to the bottom in on the WG and block off the top port to keep boost at a min.....(18-24lbs :eek: )

what kills me,this car has NO knock,i cant even hear it,when boost climbs over 16,it just starts slowing down.:eek: :eek:

Port the bottom and leave the top vented.
That will help a little to keep the boost down.

thanks for the offer on the #18 spring, but, i think its still too much,93 oct, no alky yet. what do you mean by the help above? sorry im not new to TR's, just this wastegate......thanks
