Back Tires rub fenders...

Looking for advice on rear springs. My new 17inch wheels are rubbing my inner fender over large bumps. Looks like I need additional 2 inch or less in clearance. The car has original springs and shocks. I’m looking for suggestions on replacements that won’t give me a harsh ride.

Running 17 /45/255 ...... As for back spacing not sure. I used 1 inch spacer and adapter to clear the hub. The rims are not really made for our cars. See pic below. Not sure if the rear is sitting to low...

Looks killer! But, I would say that's your problem. The spacer is pushing the wheel too far out and creating your rub issue. I'm not sure just how much clearance you need, and if this would give you enough or not, but if you want to keep those wheels, I would look into getting the fenders rolled. I had to do that on my truck to accommodate the big wide rear wheels. Since you're only running a 255 tire, that means your backspacing is totally wrong (plus the fact that you have the spacer in there just makes it even worse), because I've seen much wider tires go on these cars without an issue. So take a look at rolling the fenders, but have somebody do it who knows what they're doing, as you don't want to hurt the paint at all.

Listen to BigReade. Another 2" with a 255 tire and stock springs/shocks? You are way off. Rolling the lips won't give you 2". Your backspace is too little. Where are you located?

Rims are pretty nice BTW.

Staten Island NYC... sorry little confused, you said listen to BigReade, he said look into a fender roll as an option.

I think what he means is that if you truly need 2", the fender roll won't be enough, and it wont! But 2" is a lot, how did you come up with that as your number? And I'm not saying that rolling the fenders will be the answer, just explore your options, as you may not actually need 2".

I run 285-40-18 on my car with 1-1/4 inch adaptor and it wont rub. my car is rolled though

First thing I would do is take the rim off, get a piece of wood that is only long enough to go from rim lip to rim lip and the take a ruler and measure the distance from the inner wood (closest to rim) to the rim mounting surface. That will give you your backspace of the wheel. Then measure from your drum to your mounting surface of your new adapter/spacer. That second # will deduct from your rim backspace. I am imagining that your rim backspace is around 3"-4" and your adapter is probably pushing it out another 1-2" leaving you with about 2" backspace which is not going to work unless you want the car to look jacked up in the back or you cut and put flares on, which would BOTH be bad options for you.

The absolute right way to do it is figure out those measurements and you could get the rim properly machined by a reputable wheel shop to make it fit on your car.

What kind of rims are they, how wide are they and what is the bolt pattern? You have to give us some info and #'s to figure this out.

Just swap the wheels from the gray T onto the GN and the GN won't rub anymore.

Seriously though are you rubbing in hard corners? It looks like you have a butt load of clearance from the quarter lip at static ride height.

Yea you're right, if they are original they both need to be replaced, springs and shocks that is.

Sorry I was looking at your pic and thought it was his.

Easy way out is get airbags that go in the springs and fill with air till the car just starts to rise(usually about 5-6 psi.)and they will stiffen up the ride without changing height if you like the height the way it is now.

Springs are so cheap though....and the rears are usually a breeze to install.
