Hi...I'm having trouble with my 1984 Buick Grand National. I picked it up from a buddies dad for a great price..but can't seem to figure out why it's backfiring on me. It's been sitting for 2 years and the guy I bought it off of has another GN and put all his time into fixing that one...and the one I have was left to sit. I'm left to figure out what needs to be replaced. First things first...when I start the car up it idle's rough, when I put it in drive and step on the gas there's a loss of power and as the speed climbs it backfire's more and more...through both the exhust and throtle body. It sounds like a timing problem...but I'm not sure. If I know what's causing it...I can fix it myself. The trouble is...I'm not sure where the problem starts from. I've talked to a few people about it...some say it's a mass air flow sensor problem and others say it could be a crank or cam shaft sensor...if anyone can pin point the problem for me...would save me allot of time. Then maybe I can get down to the business of working out the kinks. My wife is driving me crazy lol...as I bought this car for her and she's yet to drive it. Thanking you all in advance for your help.
