Alright tha saga continues.
Rebulild with new clutchs and steels, fresh pump, wide band, super servo, valve body was unmolested.
Was working great firm shifts when asked for and very drivable at low throttle.

Yesturday it left in second gear, then was fine except now revs high in first almost like its sliping and hunts for second the quickly jumps to third(since I let off the throttle)

If it ease it along it shifts fine, any load and it revs high and hunts for second then sort of slides in.

While its rolling I can manualy pull it into secound and it feels fine I haven't leaned on it in manual secound.

The direct drum completely flat? I had one do the same thing it was .003-.005
concave. Got a good used one and problem solved.

Hanging in 1st

Alright spent the weekend working on my truck and my wife's exploder.
Did a road test tonight to further diagnose the problem.
It seems to be hanging on to 1st gear, I can manually shift through the gears but if I leave in drive or OD its hangs in first and the revs go through the roof until I let off.

Sounds just like what happend to mine. Band broke I was told when I got it back.

I was hopping I wouldn't have to open it up......
I'll double check this was a used drum from another tranny it appeared good.

If you have to open it,check it with a straight edge and a feeler guage. It can be machined flat on a lathe if need be. I am thinking this is the problem, it feels like it's stuck in1st but really it goes to 2nd you can't feel it cause the band is slipping it's but off. Then bang 3rd gear.

200r4

Hey Larry,Chris here go talk to Bill at performace products in counteny he has a fellow in black creek that builds bomb proof 200r4. drag racer dude does alot of the 200 from the island that race in mission. and they live:cool:

You need to start by dropping the pan,and valve body. Inspect all valves to see if any are stuck. See if all the check balls are in the right spot. Look for anything that seems out of place.

These trannys can be a bitch at times.

Alright, dropped the pan was fairly clean little crud not much.
Thought I had it figured with the governor spring....
It now shifts fine manually, and if I leave in D2.
D and OD it hunts for 2nd.
When I dropped the valve body everything moved freely.
The fluid didn't look or smell burnt.

I was missing a spring # 3 MTV down shift that I replaced from another valve body out of a core I have kicking around.

Note the picture

I don't want to drop it if i do I might have to go to a professional.
I'm a stubborn SOB

That sucks dude, the MTV spring is supposed to be MIA on performance VB. Who built this trans? And what's been done to the VB body? Does it have the correct separator plate? It should have an X on it. Maybe try another known good VB and plate.

The valve body was untouched. The seporator plate looked good and was stock as well.
I put it all together myself only thing i had done was the pump.
Lonnie built that.

back to basics
it sound like you dont have enough fluid in the pan(cavation)
if you are running the stock pan you should over fill it by half a quart sometime a whole quart

good luck

Something is not right somewhere. Probably time to tear it out and apart. Get someone local with experience to look over it for you.

Please, before you pull it, do a pressure test on it both in garage and on road, doing a teardown "hoping" to find the problem be obvious is not a good way to keep a cheerful mood. A pressure test can and usually does "Point" to the problem, if pressure checks good in the garage but wrong on the road it could be a cavitation problem with filter(none of us have ever seen a cracked filler seam before  ) good luck buds.

Kevin.
