Bad chip, vss, or what Help!

My car is doing some crazy crap. For starters the scan tool never shows 4th gear as being "on". The converter locks and unlocks erratically. At WOT the car shifts at 5000 on 1-2, drops to 3800 shifts 4300 2-3 and drops to 2800. It has a 3200 stall converter.

If I manually lock the converter it Stays locked until I turn the switch off. The scan tool shows when the TCC is locked and unlocked (not manual switch of course) under normal driving coditions. I was told this ruled out pretty much everything but the chip and VSS. I put another chip in when I got home and SAME thing.

Also, the VSS readings on the OTC are withing 1-2 KPH of the speedometer, could it still be the VSS?

This is killing me, someone give me some ideas please.

I don't know but if you need a VSS I have a brand new one in the GM bag for you at the right price.

Sounds like the 4th gear switch is shot. That or the wiring to it is screwed up somewhere.

Would fix this first and change the filter while I was in there......... As far as the odd shift points......I have no idea.

I agree. I've been talking with the chip maker it must be the 4th gear switch.

Now I really need to figure out what's causing these goofy shifts.

OK, I'm stupid. It does it only when I Manually lock the TC. But I thought a lot of people were locking the converter from the starting line with a switch.
