I'm having a heck of a time with my 87 GN, it falls on its face when you put any throttle on, it hiccups a lot and will eventually build some boost and take off.

I swapped the TPS and adjusted it about 4 months ago and that appears to be working properly according to the scan master.

I changed the oxygen sensor today and that didn't do anything for it, its still reading rich on the oxygen sensor thru scanmaster.

I took the MAF sensor off and sprayed a whole can of MAF cleaner thru it, that seemed to have helped a little for a run up the street, still hiccuped once or twice though.

Parked it, cleaned the MAF again and it seemed to have went back bad again.

What happens when the MAF goes bad, is this what it does, I hate being just a parts changer.

maf

Try to tapiing it while engine is runnling if engine stall or stumbles maf is bad the cold soder joint goes bad! If so the cardone units seem good Dennis Kirban sells them stay away from Auto Zone Pep-Boys etc!!!! Or you can go to the translator with late model maf! I still run the stock maf I would ask other members using translator what they think!!!!:;)

Maf

Thanks Mike, I did notice the car stumbles considerable when i tap the MAF, but wasn't sure what to make of that. I'll look at it again tomorrow, thanks.

Thanks Chicken, I'll also check that coil pack tomorrow, I will have to run out and pick up a cheap multi-meter.

Yeah we did the full spring cleaning, the car sat in the driveway for about 6.5 years, when I got tired of playing with it, now that my son is driving it, were back in head first. I've got a new toy to chase him around also. 81 Trans Am mint, no rust, 350 crate engine, 4 speed. Here we go again:-). More fun with the son.

what's your numbers at idle above 160 degrees? How does it idle anyways?? What kind of 02 did you put in it

Numbers

which numbers on scanmaster? Its a bosch O2 sensor, I've used them in the past with no problem at all. It idles fine. Wish it ran as good as it idles, lol.

What's your BL numbers at idle? How about iac counts? Have you ohm'ed the coil pack?

Thats a tell tale sign of a bad maf.

See how it runs with the maf unpluged.

I didn't even see that post:redface:

If I was you I would swap it with a known good one. If you don't have anyone around to swap mafs with, I'm sure you could send it to someone on the board and have them put it on their car. I'd offer but mine is stuck at a body shop for at least another week or so.

The MAF is bad. Don't dick around with it. Just get the translator and be done with it. Do not get a reman MAF, unless you like to gamble. Most are junk.

I got the translator setup also. Good thing about it is, if the new style maf takes a dump you can walk into any junkyard and pic up another:cool:

Thanks

Thanks for all the clues and help guys, picked up a new MAF today and the car runs beautiful I'm told, my son is driving it around now.

Stock or new with translator? I'm thinking of selling my maf and translator and going TT 6.0 SD! Then the MAF will never be a concern again.

Hi Screamin',
Glad to hear your repairs worked out ok. I am a bachelor,no kids. It must be cool to be able to share the things you love with a son or daughter. I have nephews and a neice, though. Thanks for the entertainment.

Thanks, yeah its fun with the kids, my son is 17, boy scout and gear head in the making. He delivers pizza 5 nights a week in the GN, lol. I think I posted I just picked up a mint no rust full size Trans Am for myself to run around in. My daughter is 14 and can't stand new cars, she spots early 70's Nova, and Corvette all the time. She is pretty sure she wants a early 70's Vette for her first wheels. Hey if you have to raise them you might as well do it right. Thanks again to everyone for the help.

Pizza delivered in a GN....that's gotta be the best Pizza ever:D...

...and I bet it's all smushed to the end of the box that was closest to the back of the GN in route...courtesy of boost induced g-forces donchya know...
