Am I correct in assuming this is way too much in and out play on the turbine? Also found greasy silvery stuff on the turbo inlet that looks Luke it was blown into the inlet when you close the throttle blade during high boost. This is a stock turbo. Please see video. Thanks guys!

Also, check out the edge of the impeller fins. Is that normal?

OK thanks bison. Your the one I was hoping would chime in. How should I go about contacting you for a newer turbo? Private Message?

OK I feel like an idiot. The email at the end of all your posts should have been a give away

Bison. One more question. Had a show I was hoping to go to next weekend. Is this the type of thing that you would say absolutely don't drive?

with that much movement in the shaft it is chewing up your thrust bearing and sending that material into the oiling systems I would be very surprised if it hasn't all ready wiped your bearings I would be cutting apart my oil filter and dumping my oil and checking it ! damage is already been done I wouldn't drive it like that. I have seen that much movement on a turbo shaft several times the outcome was not good .

OK thank you. Knock on wood no odd engine noises and I just changed the oil. Looked clean. I still have the filter and will cut apart.

I won't drive it. Thanks for the advise! I guess I'll just have to be a spectator :(

Yes I didn't mean to cut in but I have had this happen to me. To know the extent of the damage

The turbo will have to be taken apart and examined to tell how much material has past throw the oiling system

Solid advice here. Your shaft has a LOT more play than mine did and I had no issues with metal in the filter or pan. but my blades hadn't made contact with the housing. I cut my filter apart and didn't find any metal, so I ran the new turbo. No issues since, plus I added a turbo saver. If you do find metal in the filter, I'd pull the pan for inspection. Then bypass the oil cooler in the radiator as there is apparently no way to clean all the metal out of it.
