To me, it's just justifying a morally and ethically wrong behavior by saying someone is just "maximizing profit".

If it was just maximizing, it wouldn't cause an eBay member to get banned.

It is simply wrong. Don't ty to minimize or justify it because it can't be done.

To advertise something at an open/no reserve (or buy it now) auction (whether B-J does it or not) and then secretly bid against an honest bidder is wrong. Why not just set your minimum price (reserve) at the lowest you will take and leave it at that?

Oh, wait - I forgot. If you do THAT, you can't 'maximize profit'.

I'm not going to sit up here and judge anyone. All I have to say is

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"

Raven, Chad, ya'll are just p%$&(*& into the wind. It's obvious that there are a few on this board with incredibly low morals, and integrity, (and probably not even aware of it) and are willing to justify it by any means.

On what basis do you contend that this practice is immoral?

Just because something is banned by ebay or you do not like it does not make it immoral. Who made ebay or you God?

Case in point, many traffic laws are essentially amoral.

We have established a few things about shilling:

Price shilling may encourage the consumer to spend more than they would have otherwise spent.

The product bid on is the product the consumer gets for the price they agreed to pay.

The consumer is in no way coerced into paying more than he wishes to pay

The consumer retains full control of his money and his option to discontinue bidding for any reason

Now lets look at advertising:

Ads may encourage the consumer to spend more than they would have otherwise spent.

The product advertised is the product the consumer gets for the price they agreed to pay (the advertised price). -this goes for a legit ad

Ads in no way coerce anyone to purchase a good or service.

The consumer who doesnt like what the ad offers can at his discretion simply ignore the ad.

Maybe you guys should start a campaign against advertisers too... there are far more unscrupulous ones than an ebay shiller

pablo. your logic is very sound. you have a lot of good stuff to say and i agree. its nice to see a good solid argument rather than people just complaining by attaching strings of words like "immoral, wrong, terrible," making weak comparisons to unrelated isssues, and demanding that he never be able to use a computer again or some other absurd notion.

it may not be the most honest business practice but it isnt a sin or a terrible crime or something deserving of eternal damnation. i wish everyone could argue as clearly and soundly as pablo.

Hey thanks :D , I try

I need the practice incase I decide to run for office one day :)

jpratt, mind telling us how you were found out?

Not sure to tell the truth. I have read about it and they use IP address's and other ways. Also helped out alot that all 3 screenames that I have all have the same @**.com email address's.

I read that they have a bunch of ways to track items, also they have other bidders researching and looking for schill bids.

You've got to be kidding? Given the fact that price shilling on your own auction is about as low and dishonest of a thing you could do, I cannot believe the thinking some of you have on this, just brushing it off as no big deal and actually supporting it. It really says something about ones character. People are judged by their actions. And eventhough the guy may be sorry for his actions, I could almost say that just one time well it was just a poor judgment mistake but more than once, you definitly knew what you were doing and it is wrong, PERIOD. I think that running up your own auction should be a permenant ban from Ebay.

i never said i support it. i dont practice it. i just think people are overreacting a little.
