Gents,

Have a quick question.... What is the best plugs to use in these GN's. Curious.....

It's really a matter of opinion. I prefer stock plugs, only 1-2 ranges colder. A lot of people use NGK's, which are good plugs. Some people swear by the bosche plat 4's and some people think they are a total rip off. Electricity running through the electrode will take the path of least resistance. If there is only one prong, thats going to be it, if there are 4, it has a "choice" ifyou will. It's supposed to reduce spark jumping to the cyl. walls. <shrug>

ac or autolites

i have always had go luck with the ac's just don't use a platium plug, they hold too much heat....................Bob

For the GM plugs, the main choices are:

Stock heat range # CR44TS (GM# 5614275)

Cooler # CR43TS (GM# 5614029)

Coldest # CR42TS (GM# 5614226)

43 & 42 are probably the most popular, within the GM line.

Also, use "CR" over the "R" series ... heavier electrodes. The CR is harder to find at a parts store, so I generally mail order a few dozen at a time.

If you want something easier to remember and find at stores, I've had good luck with Autolites, which I currently run in my cars.

Autolite 24s for 12 sec and slower
Autolite 23s for 12 sec and faster

I've used the GM and NGKs also with no problems.

I run NGK's in my car with good results, as I run 114 race fuel from time to time. I like to run plugs that last a while because that last plug by the evaporator is a pain to change...

Be careful with the plat-4. If you look closely there are a lot of sharp edges on those prongs not to mention the extra metal that could break loose in a very bad place.;)

Gents,

All fine responses and as usual..... very quick as well! :) I heard also that regular AC's were the ticket too but wanted to get some "PROFESSIONAL" opinions from you guys!!!

Thanks,

Spank

I don't personally use them. I don't like plat. plugs in high boost or any spray conditions. To many nightmare stories of the electrode breaking off or melting.

Autolight plugs have always done well for me
24 street or 23 for high boost race
Mike

Been using NGK in everything I own and have had the best luck in terms of durability and performance. Delco CR43TS would be a good 2nd choice.

NGK users, post the plug part #'s please!!! I use UR5's and was wondering if I could go one step colder to UR6 and what the purpose/benefit would be.

just had a bosch plug break off in my brothers galant vr4 and now no compression in that cylinder:mad: ? i had never heard of this, sounds like others have ?

AC Delco CR43TS plugs from Autozone gapped at .032"...30 lbs of boost, plugs must be ok??? I've been running these since day one when I started modding and they haven't ever let me down...and they are only $1.49 per plug...choice is yours!

Would running the stock AC plugs CR44ts contribute to my knock retard problem? Would you recomend changing to a colder plug to help reduce the knock some?

I would run the 43's...the 44's are for a bone stock car only IMO.

NGK Iridium UR6 user here. Check back on some posts. There was a guy that had put the iridium plugs in and got a 15hp increase. Of course, many factors could affect this (his previous plugs could have been bad) but I just state the truth.

Scott

I also use NGK iridiums in my WRX. I trust no other plug

Maybe the broken electrode piece is stuck, keeping one of the valves open. Time to pull the head to find out the real deal.....
