With respect to the OP, I don't feel that this is the place to get into a discusion about who God is or is not. As I don't want to see this get moved to the political thread section.

Great thread, and great discussion.

Mike Barnard

I deleted the political section so long ago I almost forgot we had one.......It's been kind of nice not to read or watch those train wrecks.....

I personally have never read the entire Bible.....:(

.

Ive read it but this is the wrong forum.

I read the whole Bible about 15 years ago....now I use it for inspiration/guidance. Revelation scared the heck out of me, so I avoid that section sometimes. I've read the Bible sparingly since I was a kid.

I have a shorten version of the Bible by my bedside that points out what to read in the Bible when you need help/sad/happy/mourning/thankful/God is far away/etc. Very, very helpful to me as I know where to go to the passage that helps me deal with my problems. Really a nice little thing.

I have my first Bible given to me when I was 5 years old....and a New Testament version sitting right here given to me by my little girl when I turned 40.

Don't worry, Brett, it all points to ONE GOD. He'll understand your confusion. The Bible is man's interpretation of religion....the red print in the Bible are supposed to be the actual words Jesus spoke.

God and Jesus didn't leave anything concrete down here.....he has us rely strictly on FAITH....that's all you need. You do good, you believe, you accept John 3:16, you ask for forgiveness, you help others, you be a good person...you'll have no problem. It's all whether you've accepted Jesus Christ in your heart and believe he died for us....if you don't, well, leave me your GN as the paint will burn at this place you'll be sent to.....I'll take care of it for you.

My only problem if I make it to Heaven, is I wear a hearing aid, acutally two of them, and I don't know who to ask where they sell hearing aid batteries up there, and if they are EcoGold brand.....:tongue:

Does that mean there are many different GODs? That's what I could never understand about the bible. If it's GODs word shouldn't ALL bibles say the exact same thing?

The truth is, the bible is just a humans interpretation of what he thinks GOD would want everybody to think. If im wrong someone please correct me.

You are wrong...

Brett, IMO and many others, the KJV is the only correct version. I truly believe it is the word of our Lord. How many other books have been around that long and have stayed untouced? At least until all these new money making versions came out.

The way to simplify it to me is to understand that the KJV is the ONLY one that NO profit is made on... ALL others have someone getting royalties:mad:

The word of the Lord is FREE!

I always find it amusing how those that claim to be atheist, or come up with arguments to shake the bibles credibility.... are ironically the ones that are fulfilling so much of it's prophesy

I'm almost through it for the 2nd time. A piece of advice I got when I was a kid that seemed to work for me was to not start at Genesis but to start with the Gospels - those I have read 3 times.

What Brett said. I was raised Catholic and forced to read whatever version of the bible those people believe in. As a teenager, I learned to look past the blinders that religions put on people and have since educated myself in the many different religions and veiws of the world. Not just someones narrow-minded perspective of what they believe is the "truth".

Shane but unfortunately there is no one still living when the KJV was written so we have no idea as to what may or may not have changed over the last several hundreds or thousands of years.

You cant say that I am wrong, you can only say that you disagree with me cause you and no one else on this earth has any PROOF that ANY bible is anything other then fiction. That is your opinion and you are entitled to it.

You have no idea if the JKV has been untouched. You believe that it hasnt but cannot prove that it hasnt been modified at one time or another.

And considering there are just as many if not MORE people that believe in the Quoran how can anyone truly say that this is the word of GOD. Isnt there only one GOD? If so, then why so many different religions?

I personally own & have read/compared a variety of different translations(both very old & newer versions) of the Bible & have found that "The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures" is an excellent translation... very clear & easy to understand. If anyone here would like a free copy of this Bible along with an article entitled How can you choose & Good Bible Translation?, which helps to answer why there are so many different translations of the Bible in the World today....just pm me & I'll get you one for just the cost of shipping it...

Actually Brett, yes there are many text dating back to the time of the writings that are still in existence. The Dead Sea Scrolls are but one example of this. So yes you can trace the KJV back 2000 years...

I read the Life Application Study Bible daily, I only truely gave my life to Christ 3 years ago. I'm an emperical evidence kinda a guy. Someone says it's raining I check it out. However some things we accept on faith. God has worked miracles in my life in the past 3 years and I've had emperical encounters. But I think it is best summed up in SGRIM's sig, John 3:16. He asks for so little and He gives so much.

Me too buddy, it is really amazing what He does when you ask and look for it!!

Yea, I thought about the dead scrolls to but thats hardly the entire bible. The problem I have with the bible is that people pick and choose what passages they want to believe and leave out the more sinister passages. I am very religious Shane just not in the same way you are.

To each his own,

I haven't read it cover to cover, but it's on my bucket list. :)
