Alright.... many threads about which converters are better.... and there seem to be many that are good.... some better than others... what I would like to compare is what brand converters and what stall... and what slip % they got.... lock-ups are welcomed too... just need your data... with them unlocked.... All you need is a timeslip... and finish line RPM's off a datalogger......Here is the calculator:

TCI Calculator to calculate converter slip %

Please post your approx ET and major components of the combo.... maybe this can help people decide on which one to buy.....

If you chose "other" ... please post which one you are running......

Oh... need to post what tranny you are running as well.... that really needs to be included in everyones post...

I'm going to start.... on a combo I have been helping with... 88ZNX's....

Tranny 2004R
Converter: Vigilante 5-disk 0-pump lockup
ET 11.14
Trap Speed unlocked 117.96 mph
Finish line RPM's about 5700 RPM (with converter unlocked)
Tire size: MT Drag radials 275/60/15
Slip 16.7%

66mm turbo, FMIC, not much done to motor....etc....

Vigilante single disc, 32-3400 advertised stall.

18.3% slip through the traps unlocked.
6067RPM @ 125MPH 10.9 et. 28" tire.

200-4R trans
6776RH turbo, ported heads/intake, 210/210 roller cam

EDGE 10" 3000 stall L/U
5925rpm's thru the traps@117mph, converter unlocked in 3rd gear
M/T ET's 255/60/15 26"tall
3.42 gears
E/T 11.49
Slip 13.7%
COMBO:
Ported iron heads, port matched intake, 212/212 roller cam, TA-49,THDP, stretch stock location intercooler, TT chip, 60# injectors, Razor's alky, 91 octane

Fuddle Racing 3400 Lockup
2004R Transmission
12.6 % Slip Unlocked
26" Tire
3.42 Gears

Keep it coming guys.... 30 votes so far

The more people vote... and then post the data.. and slip %...the more it will tell about these converters.

PTC 9.5"
Stage 2 GN1 heads 80MM turbo 3580#s

28" tire 3.42 gear trap RPM of 6400-6450

slip 3.40% 151.99 MPH

Ill be installing a 10" PTC L/U in my new car

Great thread.

Can't get the calculator to work. Whats the third gear ratio? 1:1?

Cool. Got it.

Art Carr 200R4 trans and 3200 (9") non LU.
121.80 MPH @ 6025 RPMs in 3rd gear. = 10.5% slip.
3.73 gear, 28" MT DRs.
1.50 60'
11.17 ET.
NOTES: car leaves off of the trans brake @ 4200 RPMs.
Will cruz @ 65-70 mph @ 2300 rpms (as I remember, but would'nt bet my life on it).
These times were on 91 oct / Razor's meth.
See combo below.

trans slippage

with a 200r trans, i put 1 in the transmission ratio, it came up -99 on slippage?? what did i do wrong??

I got 5.59% what does that mean?

Typically the lower the number... the "better" the converter couples up top.... i.e. less slip

The converter obviously slips alot down low.... and begins to slip less and less...the further up the RPM range. In a perfect world... you would have enough slip down low... to get enough RPM stall out of it for fast spoolup.... but still "tighten up" towards the finish line.... usually making your trap speed more.

The purpose of this poll is for everyone to vote... then calculate their slip% and post the results along with how fast their combo is....

This could be used by people in the market to purchase a converter....

IMHO... adequate stall speed down low......and low slippage numbers thru the traps is what you are looking for.

Oh, 5.59% isn't too bad for a non locking converter.... what converter are you running?

I'm copying Blazer406s format:

Tranny 2004R
Converter: Vigilante 5-disk 0-pump lockup
ET 11.37
Trap Speed unlocked 117.47 mph (was 'locked' via the chip, but not actually locking)
275/60/15 MT Drag Radials

I don't have the data from the 11.37 run, but looking at other runs I'd say Blazer's other data (RPM and slippage) is consistent with mine.

At the time: PT-61 turbo, CAS V4 intercooler, P&P stock heads, some other stuff....

Jim

From data I can scratch together.

converter: vigillante 7 disc. 0 pump, LU

Unlocked: 112 mph @ 5250rpm = 6.06% slip
Locked: 117.5 mph @ 5195rpm = .04% slip

Its an upgraded stock D5 that stalls at a true 2400. Its a locking convertor, but I do not lock it up when racing, I have tried to a couple times, but it doesn't seem to help my quarter mile times much.
