I have 4 billit min caps and a 10 sec recipe. I am looking to go 10.50's - 10.80's. Does anyone find it advantagous to add a block gurdle and going through the hassle if im not looking to go much faster? Thanks alot.

Whats the milage of the motor you are looking to go 10`s?. I alot more time ($$) consuming to have a fail bottom end. You should 4 billit main caps and gurdle the block. You should at lease install the center billit main cap.

low 10s on just two steel center main caps

many others have found it to be fine with just the two

if i wanted to push for 9s i would girdle it

Since you have the motor apart, girdle it. This extra protection will insure that the bottom stays together. I broke two cranks on my GN running 11.0 - 11.25 using a transbrake. Put the block girdle on and have been safe for the past five years. Transbrakes are brutal on the crankshaft.

Why do you think that about T-brakes?? Never heard that one before.

Explain the difference the trans brake makes. I don't get it...

My block i believe is the stock with 85k on it. Rebuilt by andersons 3200 miles ago. I have 4 main caps and no trans brake so i think i'll be allright. I only plan on going to the track once to get a 10 second pass on paper. Then its just going to be a few times a year driver while i work on other projects. And for the transbrake issue, Trans brake locks first and reverse so that the car will not move at all on the line. Depending on your stall, if your running 10's you probably would want something around 3200-3400 stall or higher. When you let off the brake, not only the is the crank is subject to tremendous instantanious load/shock, you also have to worry about your rear, axles, rods, basically the drive trane. lol. hope this helps a little.

Bro, I see that the crank gets less load once the trans brake is released. You are thinking about dumping the clutch on a manual or something..? Totally not the same. It's the same thing as launching with the real foot brakes. The engine see's no difference. There is no sudden load on the engine with a T-brake.

You will be fine, save your $$.

Who recommended that you purchase the 4th big end cap?
Thats a bit overkill as I have yet to hear that the stocker cracked at any HP level.

You should have bought the girdle instead of the caps. The girdle and all the machining required would have been nearly the same cost and more reliable. The main webbing is weak also and the caps do nothing to prevent failure in that area. The girdle will tie all the caps together and be considerably more reliable than just caps. There can be no detonation at high hp levels or the webbing, threads, or the crank will develop cracks and fail.

Yea, i wasnt the one who put the caps in, but there in there now. I guess i'll see what kind of mood im in when the motors out then decide wether or not to gurdle it.

Block Girdles

I Know Its Different, But I Am Recently Deprted From The 5.0 Crowd To Join The Buick Turbo Crowd. I Do However Have Personal Expierence With Girdles In The 5.0's. They Are Awesome, 5.0 Are Very Weak Through The Mains. I Ran One In My My 347 Stroker For 3 Years With A Healthy Shot Of N2o, Andf Never A Problem. Thanx Jason
