quickly cut back on sodium is an idea (its Hereditary in the men in my family) other than that there is no real way but try this

1. eat dark chocolate
2. increase potassium intake
3. Ditch the Regal and Walk and exercise (kinds sucks sometimes:biggrin:)
walk to work one day or somewhere nearby
4. DRINK WATER!!! h20 is your friend plus the majority of your body is water

(i'm glad i paid attention in health and nutritio class:redface:)

if they do put him on BP meds, probably the first med they will put him on is furosemide aka lasix(a diuretic), which will cause him to pee off lots of extra sodium and water, thus reducing sodium, blood volume, and blood pressure...

while drinking water is good, drinking lots of excess water may not be the best advice for someone with high blood pressure, as it could increase blood volume and thus blood pressure in the short term. fortunately the body is pretty good at regulating blood volume, and it wouldnt increase BP for long

I just went to the doctor on monday and my BP was 160/116

I'm taking 20mg of BP medication once a day for a week and I need to go back this monday to see if it lowered any. I also cut out as much salt intake as possible for this week. Gym membership here I come!!

Get to a doctor for stress test if you are over 40, my chest still hurts a bit 7 months after they cracked it to fix my aorta. Going to the track tonight for the first time since the surgery.

Dude you need bp meds i take them every day and some lifestyle changes im 30 and i spend $59 a month on bp pills all out of pocket...Youll blow out your heart and your kidneys and end up on dialysis 3 times a week dont do this to yourself ive seen it firsthand and its not pretty. Read labels for sodium content and dont do like i did and argue with the gf before doc appt doh!!!!!!!

I know and reading this has got me even more worried! I NEVER had high BP before and now all of a sudden it's through the roof!!

This whole week I have'nt put any salt on anything, stayed away from Chips, sugars, soda, and took my pills as directed and downed a lot of water. tomorrow we will see if it has gone down.

This thread has been very helpfull also.

I have the same problem, I used nitric oxcide, or NO2, NOX, etc it helps with the transport of oxygen in the blood, after a few days of using the as directed on the bottle, mine dropped. This is over the counter and is used in weight training, perfectly safe

My wife is a nurse & we checked mine at least once a day for a while (right before I gave up the natural way to regulate it & went on drugs), and we found an interesting thing for me. I found my left arm reads 5 LESS on top and bottom numbers than my rt arm. I am right handed, but do a lot with my left arm too so for me it isn't like my left side doesn't get exercise or anything. Not sure if it's because my rt is a little stronger or is used more than my left or what. Either way, I ask the nurse at doctor office to check my left arm all the time so the readings match up each visit.

PS - after I lost around 20# and cut the salt back to bare min, my numbers came down to just barely in the range of OK with a low dose of Diovan. I tried Lisinopril first, but it made me feel like I was going to fall asleep right after taking it, and made my throat sore all the time (common side effect). Not sure the weight loss helped much, but feel better & trying not to put it back on. Cheese, microwave stuff, fast food, and any restaurant food is FULL of salt & needs to be watched. Plus gatorade has a lot too. Got to watch you don't go the other way & have too little of salt on hot hard working days too. On low salt diets, you sweat what little you have out & then cramp up like mad. Those are the days I can splurge a little & suck up salt :) Had to cut out the caffeine too, that was probably the biggest thing raising mine up. Miss that one, down to one a day max now, used to have 3-5 pops a day. And cutting back on that is where all the empty calories were for me & the weight came right down. Well that & the McDonalds breakfast I was doing a couple times a week that I had to cut back to 1-2 times a month... gettin old sucks! Used to feel invincable, now I feel fragile & always in for repairs! :frown:

I’ve made some changes in life and the blood pressure is already going down big time. I checked it at Wally World tonight at 138/85. I’m going to keep working on it.
