I am trying to get my stock turbo to 24 psi but i can only get 22.5 to 23 psi with a rjc boost controller. i have turned the rjc boost controller down almost all the way but no more boost. Is this stock turbo out of air?? i have a 9" by 3" k&n that is clean.bgc 3" downpipe,3" atr single shot, and a big neck stock intercooler....what are some other things i need to look at to get the boost up?.............................................thanks Bob:)

Maybe it is just me, but I don't know any local guys that have even been 24 psi on a stock turbo?

Seems like you are at about the normal limit.

checkout the alky section

you are probably right but look at the 11.60's on stock turbo in the alky section..Ed is getting up to 25 in first but it does drop back to 23 on his car...i guess it is out of steam...i am going to the track saturday so i guess i will have to live with the 22.5 unless i can find somemore boost somewhere;) .....thanks Bob

stretch the spring-
long story short, i turned Ed Brewer onto the RJC bleeder valve monday, the very day after i saw his car run 11.64 and 11.69 with the fuel pump shutting down after the 1/8th.

my car "with faulty stock turbo" only had 20 psi unlocked 25 psi locked running that valve-
i run the car unlocked 20psi , went 12.8 107.25 on radials. should go 12.5 this week, i took my 7th injector off! yes it has the stock turbo and intercooler with 30#s

Ed came over to my house and put MY valve on his car, which was set to 25 plus boost with the TCC locked, i only hit it once with it locked, and his was shooting past 27 on the highway with my valve on his car same setting.

Ed adjusted the RJC bleeder so his boost was lower, and it rained tuesday and wednesday. I havent spoken with him in the last 2 days to find out if he got the boost down and his wastegate was turned out 9 full turns that from his other setup.

If you have some creep with your convertor locked, loosen your adjustable wastegate.

FYI- now that i do NOT have the RJC valve, my car runs 19psi locked and seems faster on the butt dyno, and my wastegate is lengthened out to 1/8th away "LOOOOSE". on the other side of it is a broken boost commander that does not bleed off air. for some reason the solenoids do not buzz, got to send it off-
i only suggest running higher that 22 psi if you have meth or alky, Drugs are bad.. mmmkay! :D

Thanks Bryan

i think when i first put it on i know it went past 20 psi and i had to back it off a good bit. i will take the spring out and stretch it a bit and see what happens....thanks for the info....Ed may scratch his back bumper with that rjc booster controller:eek: his spool up should be quicker now and i think he will be in the low 11's soon:cool: ..............................................thanks Bob

i tighten the waste gate rod about two turns and it is now at 25 psi. some how it had got loose so my puck didn't have that much tension on it. going to the track tommorow night so i will see if it will hold that boost all the way through.................thanks Bob

Just because the turbo is making boost, it doesn't mean it is making more power. I have had a hot air turbo peg a 30psi gauge. The max power I have seen with a stock turbo is around 22psi. I only run 18, but I have ported heads.

you are right force fed

i will find out tommorow night by trap speeds.....hoping the alky will cool it off but i won't know till i try it:) .............thanks Bob

let me know how it went, im headed to the track if they are open, its 42° here.

Just got my stock turbo on and hit 25 psi on first run. No timing so the power is off compared to the 49.... I need to get it tuned and get to the track. I know for sure I can run a low 12 right now(untuned), But I will add timing to get the most power.

Track times soon

not good

My local track was a mess last night. i almost hit the wall on the first run 14.3 , i think someone put some oil down so i decided to try again and run a 12.5 spinning again. it was late and dew was falling on the track so i don't think that helped any. i think i am going to order me some slicks this week and some telstar wheels. my boost comes up so quick and if the track is crappy it is a handfull. i turned the boost down to 22 on the second run to see if that would help but i was still spinning badly through first and second..i wish i could have got a few more runs in Reynolds, the track there was so much better than this local track.........Bob

stock turbo class

:D well i know who would qualify 1st :) it wouldn't surprise me if Ed didn't get that thing in the 10's soon.....11.30's on a stock turbo and those traps are awesome........................Bob

rjc controller

bryan i just got my controller in the mail...how do you like yours....does it really help spool up?

i would say that it spools up a few seconds faster-
put the new controller on the car and take it on the highway, be careful because the boost comes up STUPID fast once you get it right.
make sure you have some good fuel in there, should spool up faster than your used to

Bryan,
Stock turbo class sounds good to me. I ran the car last night with some timing:eek: Pulls pretty good! I still have a lot of tweaking to do tho. Ed's 60' are totally kick a$$, so I need to get the car to 60'....If I can do that, I will be some competition for him. But, the track will definetly tell the story.

Ps.
When we put real turbos on the cars after all this......

Eds car does hook pretty good, i really thought he would get a 1.499 but the 1.509 was good enough.

Today i turned my boost up from 19psi, to 22. it made a difference, but i have questions for you guys.

At 19psi the smc alky kit was set to 4 or 4.5 and i think the fuel pressure is 42 or 45 i need to put a gauge on it again. no knock ever. runs great, pulls pretty good for stock turbo.

so i turned the boost up to 22 even with the convertor locked it was staying at 22. i took off my RJC bleeder, still on loan.
i didnt turn up the fuel pressure, because i was going to try and compensate with more alky. damn thing was knocking even when i ended up turning the dial all the way to 10 on the smc kit-

so, now im thinking, A its lean, or B its rich. so i turn the dial all the way back to 5 and its knocking again... doesnt matter. 8-10° of knock anywhere between 5 and 10 on the dial.
now that makes me feel that im running out of fuel, or need to turn up the fuel pressure. Fuel filter is at least 3 years old :o
Eds car has 009s and eric has the injectors trimmed back to 30 LB injectors. thas exactly what my injectors are. 30 LB green stripes.

guess i need to turn up the fuel pressure and see what happens. but i think 46-47 psi is too much for my setup. doesnt it seem that i should be able to keep the fuel pressure down lower?

just imagine what kind of fuel pressure i may need to run 26psi of boost:confused:
what fuel pressures do you guys run? what is your alky set to?
my car is FAT, 3500 plus me 206.5:rolleyes: car has a full tank of 91 octane.
i will get it figured out, but sure would be nice to hear what your setups are.
28° in 1st and 2nd 25° in 3rd.

tuning

Bryan, i think it is going to be hard for you to run that kinda timing because of the smc kit. i think that the pac kit starts spraying at like 5 psi of boost.(default setting on mine)..when does your alky start spaying on the smc kit?....my friend has the smc single nozzle kit and i think his comes on about 15 or so psi of boost.anything earlier and it bogs......Julio can help you:) ...hth Bob

You sound like you are too lean or not enough octane. When my car gets rich kr from being out of tune, it gets massive amounts of kr showing like(55 degrees) and we all know that is false. I turn down boost and fp and start all over again. Your best bet is to do the same, but try to go in 1 psi incriments this time.

Shift your car lightly through the gears on all the tuning proceedures (your tranny will thank you) and then hammer on it when tuned.

I really dont look at fp anymore but I think its at like 40psi... Alky is almost all the way up:eek:

i went out and checked my fuel pressure. it was 44psi so i upped it to 46.
if it still knocks, im going to up my WOT fueling with Erics chip.
EGT was 1575 at 70, not enough room to see if it knocks
