Boost won't go higher

Back in the day using my Grainger boost controller I got a few spare springs from a tranny shop to stiffen it up, worked good! If you think you are out of boost, add octane, wire wastegate shut,be careful.......:)

If you can connect the wastegate rod to the puck arm by hand you're WAY too soft on it. I need a pair of pliers to connect mine still even after taking out a bunch from ditching the FMIC.

I wouldn't get a converter until you know your next turbo. The 67/65 sounds like it's in your ballpark of options. If you had Stage 2 heads I'd say 67/68 no doubt.

So, I guess that I need to crank on it some more. I'll see what happens next time out.

BTW, I've found that adding only 2-3psi total from the MBC and doing the rest with the adjustable WG rod helps spool up vs more MBC and less adjustable rod.

Keep cranking, like 4 turns in and hopefully you're 2-3psi higher. ;)

I've seen "stetch the spring" and "shim the spring" as ways to gain boost with RJC boost controller. Has anybody just removed the jam nut and tightened it up a few more turns? Shouldn't move or leak, so why leave it on?

I've had more problems keeping boost down so I haven't tried it.

Thoughts?

what is the weight of your car?the pte.63 has been much faster than 124mph so i don't think your restriction is there.if your weight is high, your probably at the limits of the turbo or keep shortening that rod.

get in touch with this guy he has different springs for his kits... i have the duel kit, he sent me 3 different spring setups with it...

The car weighs 3660 with 3/4 tank of fuel and me in it. Work has kept me from returning to the track, so I haven't had a chance to make a pass since the Nats.

Update, made it to the track yesterday. Tightened the wastegate rod 2 more turns and shimmed the RJC valve with a washer, boost was at 23#. The car ran 10.73 @ 124.89.

Go back next weekend and give it a couple more turns.

Good times. Looks like you've got it working together and making good power.

If you want to get an idea of how much power you are making, use this calculator and your PL information:

Huh, surprised the MPH didn't go up more.

I'd determine how many turns changes the boost, so next time out, turn it in 2 turns and see how much the psi goes up. This way you have an idea of what the rod is giving you vs the MBC. You then can keep shimming the internal spring on the MBC and seeing what that does to the boost.

Very nice times. It looks like you have this COMBO working. You know I have a smile from ear to ear.

well i took my 6152e to a 6.76 @ 20psi till like the last 40 ft of the track and the boost creeped to almost 22.

I thought it was gonna be out of breath on the 1/4 so i upgraded to the 67hpq billet ball bearing.

I think in reality i just needed to get the bigger exhaust housing.

But on a side note this past weekend i ran a 6.98 @ 100 and some change with a 1.66 60ft spining the DR's hard. The boost was 18 psi.

congrats dude on pushing that turbo a tad more.

Thanks for the advice and the motivation to continue with this little turbo. It's that time of the year, winter is coming and a new year is on the horizon, who knows what spring will bring?

I think that the converter is leaving a lot on the big end, 15% slip. Currently running a single disc Vigilante, so I'm not locking it.

I know the guy in the lane beside me Saturday was surprised when I out ran his stripped down, stroked Foxbody racecar with a 3660# Buick. He jumped the light and I still ran him down at the traps. My wife works with his wife, and he is always asking about the GN and how it is running.

I am unsure as to which direction I will turn next. Probably gonna go with a billet 67 and a freshened tranny with either a PTC or a multidisc Vigilante with a few fuel upgrades for next year.

Man bad V6, you got that 6152 flying, definitely the fastest I've heard of.

I would absolutely love to see what a Billet 6265 ACBB with a .85 A/R housing would do on your combo. My guess would be some 10.40's at similar boost levels, once you get the spoolup worked out with a new PTC converter.

It is so true, bigger is not always better.

After reading the "Bigger is not always better" thread and seeing how Bad V6 and SloGN got the 6152 working, was all the reason I needed to know I did not need a 67mm wheel to reach my 10.50's goal. That is why I went with the Billet 6265 WCBB .63A/R  on the new stroker combo. :p
