How many of you guys are running a BOV? I'm going with a powerstroke I/C and am wondering if I will need one, since there isn't one on the stock set up. I've seen some on the crossover pipe, but generally on a street car I don't see one. What gives?

Use the search feature. This has been gone over about as many times as buick guys have heard "Nice Monty Carlo!" Not bashing ya here. Jon

Blowoff valves

Blowoff valves are not needed in my opinion. They should only be used on cars with soup can muffler and driven by people who can't shave yet.:D

Oh how I do love good BOV thread...always entertaining...

A search on BOV returns no results, and 'blow off valve' gets only 1 actual bov result. So, again, I ask what's the deal? Does anyone use one or not, and what's the reason?

There has got to be more than that. I just did a search, type "blowoff" in the search and you will get some results.

You are going to start a big fiasco  . Just walk away John, just walk away

IMHO, from what Ive seen, theres no clinical proof to back up the "BOV needed on a turbo set-up" theory. The money spent on a 'good' BOV could be put twards something more useful on a set-up. I agree with 86Nick: Import Propaganda.

Bov

If a blowoff valve was needed the OEM would have put one on it. Vehicle manufacturers spend millions of dollars in research when building a vehicle. I'm sure if it is needed it would come factory.

No they would'nt. They wouldnt spend the extra money to do so. Why does the TT supra come with one stock, or mazdaspeeds  , I guess the japs (can I say that?) dont know what there doing . I guess the germans thought it would be cool to put them on the VW's too. I'm not here to argue and could care less. Everyone has their own opinions why they dont need them and why you do need them. As for my opinion Yes you should use a blowoff valve I dont care that are cars are automatics, Compressor surge is Compressor surge, no matter how you cut it. With that said have a good weekend guys

I guess I'll put my legs up on the table and watch this play out.....again.

HAHAA... I'm done with it. These threads start about every 4 months, and go on for 3 pages of people arguing about it  . Hey Notacarlo, do you have a seat for me as well, I'll bring the beer .

On de-celloration and part throttle, the GN ECU ignors the MAF, right guys?. So any flutter of air does not screw up the mixture or affect the response of getting back on the gas. (The MAF would have wild readings when coming off boost without a BOV)

On more modern ECUs, they squeeze every little drop of gas they can, and the ECU will look at the MAF for what it's worth at part throttle coming off boost and idle to lean it out to the last atom. The GN does not. So, no BOV needed IMO.

That the main reason for the manufacture to install a BOV. lowers emissions. It also makes modern cars drivable out of turns for the same principle. We don't have that problem.

I'll agree with you on this. I still like them though

I love this....thats my laugh for the night right there...

just ran a search for BOVs...just to see. You're lookin at 200-400ish for an extra part you dont really need all that much. Yes, yes, 'it saves my turbo and everything ROFL!' I hear all the time. But geez, 300-400 bucks almost pays to have most turbos rebuilt (or well on your way to, or going to an upgraded unit) and saves adding yet another part that can fail/malfunction on your car. I mean, I know a lotta guys who use them and swear by them as much as External wastegates (a battle for another day... .) I could see where if it came stock on there not to take it off as it was part of the original design, but other than that I dont see it as a critical part on a TR.

Bottom line, sure....go for it....spend the money. Not here to start a fight at all or finish one or anything. A++ rating on the Super Sequential deal. As for me though, they'll always be about as useful as liger and bowstaff skills...¬.¬

::SIDE NOTE:: As I was searching for BOV, one of the top hits lead me to this little hunny: 1 PSI Super Charger System by RAM Performance Parts 1 PSI! w00t! ^__^
