I recently obtained a gn tranny core it had a BQ tag on it i wanted to build a tranny other than my own and keep my original tranny original since it works fine...I talked to a builder and he said he wouldnt touch it.... Im wondering what the difference is that would make it undesirable to use as a base or even a core....

BQ is from a Hot Air (84-85) Turbo Regal

Calibrated a little different... but still up on the list of desirable cores.

i was told the main diffrence was the servo. i just put a bq in 1 of my cars i have not finished up the job yet so i can't give you any feedback but i did switch out the servo with the one that came out of the car because the car is a 86 and the tranny i put in is a 84 bq

Our tranny guy here; Jimmy's Transmission, he said it's very similar and he has built plenty of BQ running into the 10's for us. If you are building it up by changing the internals to billet servo and all the good hard parts, what difference does it make. According to him the valve body is very similar. Actually I have BQ all done up with billet forward drum, brake and all the goodies to go into my TTA with a built 4.1.

I think you may want to find a reputable 200r4 builder that knows how to make these transmissions work and have a good understanding on what makes a 200r4 hold up. If not, you will be constantly going back to get new clutched put in/ rebuild.

I have more than 1 BQ running good # Servo is different--governor has a spring on the heavy weight--remove it--very slight differences in VB--once it is built to hold up your car won't know the difference--Best of luck---Don't use that builder!!!!
