whats the chances of breaking a main cap on a low 10 sec car with stock caps, girdle, and forged rotating assembly? are billet caps even worth the cost?

when I looked into the choice of either, the consensis was it is not essential. the only advantage was to the machinist, the forged is easier on the tooling. :) :)

what was not essential?

If you have a girdle already steel caps aren't necessary. The girdle takes the load off the caps and main webbing and evenly distributes it across the bottom of the engine. I would say that the possibility of breaking a stock main cap with a girdle on the motor is 0%.

Steel Caps

What About Just 2 Center Billit Caps And No Girdle
Steve,
We recommend two steel center caps for cars up to 11.0 's and a girdle and stock caps for anything faster. We have had cars run in the 9's on two steel center caps only but it is hard on the block. Steel caps and a gridle is an absolute waste of money because the girdle repairs the weakness of the cast caps plus ties the whole bottom end together.

I Am Probley Looking At 10.5 On The Best Day,more Than Likley In Between There And 11.00 So I Should Be Ok Dont You Think Brian

I would think if the caps were installed properly, the rest of the engine is done right, and good tuning you should be fine. We have many customers that have been running mid to low 10's with steel center caps only.

The bottom end will have no tolerance of detonation at that HP level with stock caps. I have cracked stock caps with minimal detonation with a 125+mph car. A girdle is the safest.

We never build engines with stock center caps because they definitely are prone to failure. Steel center caps are less expensive and easier to work with than a girdle. A girdle is overkill if you don't plan on running faster 11.0's.
