I've always hoped that they would leave the GN name alone.....allow something to remain sacred.

Personally I hope they don't bring it back. Look at what Chevy did with the Impala and Malibu names, slapped classic monikers onto the most boring, FWD "point a to point b" lumps imaginable.
Even the new GTO, although impressive, is still nothing more than a glorified RWD Grand am/Grand Prix annonymous combination. IMO, the new GTO is no "GTO"

On that note, I guess the GN's/T-types themselves could be considered pretty bland, but not to me. I was out on the bike this weekend, and saw a burgandy T-type in Latrobe PA, damn near gave me wood :D

And the Nova

Look at what Chevy did with the Impala and Malibu names, slapped classic monikers onto the most boring, FWD "point a to point b" lumps imaginable.

And the mid 80s Nova/Corolla:(

I to vote that they let the Grand National name rest. It was tied to Buick's great NASCAR circuit successes in the early eighties with much of the engine electronics and turbo technology derived from their involvement with Indy racing.

That being said, the Gran Sport moniker always works well to define the premium performance version of a given model. Witness the sixties when you had the Skylark Gran Sport, Wildcat Gran Sport and Riviera Gran Sport. So I say, bring back the GS series and put some meaning behind it! :)

dont forget about monte carlo ss i got a new one no performance ther either! fwd go figure

What do they have 205 HP? Flywheel number?

The Monte SS really burns me but thats probably because I am also an f-body fan. I just dont understand how GM could make a 385 HP RWD monster Camaro SS Intimidator and then slap the same name on such a wussy car as the new Monte Carlo.

It just boggles my mind that they could do something like that. The funny thing is, most Monte SS owners think they have a race car. I love putting car lengths on them on the street without even going WOT. :)

Also, GM is not the only company to ruin good names. Take a look at that thing Dodge called a Charger, or the Duster which was nothing more than a Shadow with a spoiler.

when i'm head of buick in a few years...it'll be back:o

funny you say that about the monte carlo..people say the same about the impala....the new one is faster than the older v8 impala ss

Speed isn't everything...

To me, most of what makes a car great is its appearance, character, and "soul". Classic Impalas have it, the new ones are appliances on wheels.

Say your neighbor down the street has a hot pink Honda Del Sol with a fart pipe and huge wing, but it runs 11's. Would it inspire anything from you other than laughter?? I might ride in a car like that and think "Wow this is fast!", but I still wouldn't want to be seen in it ;)
