Hey guys!

Friend of mine here at work had to get a ride in today because his 95 Caddy Deville wouldn't start. It has the 4.6L Northstar motor in it.

We're cruising the web trying to find out where the starter is exactly to see how easy it is to maybe change, or to get at it with a hammer and see if a few smacks will fix it. Problem is, we're seeing a lot of conflicting info about where exactly the start is on this car. Can someone give us a little help here? If you need more info just ask. Thanks!

I'm not sure if there are different models of the Northstar, but the last one I saw had the starter in a place that may be bad news for you.

The starter is located underneath the intake manifold. Inside the "V" valley. That might be why you're having a hard time seeing it. Good luck. HTH

sh!t!!

I knew it. I found some cut aways of the motor on the net. Wow that engineer needs shot.

Also, what's up with the 2 piece block idea? Prolly the same guy.

Thanks for the help CW!

I remember seeing that for the first time at a car show and thinking the same thing. I feel sorry for the first unlucky person to come across THAT.

How's the roller coming?

Does anyone know what else could keep this car from starting? This car has the security system from the factory.

My friend started the car. Forgot something so he turned it off and went inside. Came back out and it won't start. Does anyone have any ideas?

CW: Roller is going good, hopefully the motor goes in this weekend. I really want to get the garage cleaned up and organized before I start ripping things apart. Worst case scenario is it'll be done by July 4th.

Caddy help...

Is the security light on when he tries to start the car? If so it'll need an ignition cylinder.

The starter job isn't that bad. The gaskets are reusable and you can prop the intake up with a small prybar to get the starter out and not have to disconnect everything from it.

I would check the security light first, very common with "vats" key cars.

The security systems are usually more troublesome than the starter, does the key have a chip on the outside like the older vats systems? If so, maybe try a new key first.
