Ok, the "SecondHand Six" beater has just had its' value doubled by getting the cage installed and the mini-tubs finished. Ignore all the trash in the floor and missing interior..I do plan to clean it up now that it's home. :D

I am going to set it down at least 2" in the back and the front will be down considerably when the motor's in...but these pics at least show the tire size and how tight of a squeeze it is to fit 29.5x10.5Ws in there.

Oh, yeah..we're taking name suggestions for the thing. So far from the IRC crowd we have:

SecondHand Six
Big Pink Rod (not sure my wife will go for that one)
Used Up Junk Racing
Roguewood (with apologies for stealing the idea from Mike St. Eve's Vette)

Feel free to post your own! :)

Sweet car

VERY nice looking work. Cage is very similar to mine. Are those really "W's," because they look to me to be about as big as my "true" 10.5's. Anywayz, neet car and I'm sure it'll FLY.

Those are the "W" tires. They are absolutely the biggest thing you could fit while keeping any remnant of the stock frame..all I left was the back wall of the frame. The back bars of the cage come down to the top of the rear suspension crossmember to stiffen things back up, but I am still considering adding some more reinforcement since we cut so much of the frame away.

I hope it flies..heck, I hope it doesn't blow up! :)

Dang...I run the 29.5X10.5s (non-"W" modesl) and only had to cut half of the frame out and eliminate all remanents of the rear wheel well moldings. This is with 15X10X4.5"BS wheels.

Me too...on the latter. ;)

Dude... is your cage welded to the frame or to the body/floor? Because it looks like the “tube pass thrus” on the floor are welded to the vertical tubes of the cage. I thought that it was common practise to leave these “open” and just weld the tubes to the frame.

Can we get some side pics of the car? And more “close-ups” of the cage?

The car looks great… and I think that Mike St.Eve would be complimented by the “rip-off” ;) Seeing that Vette run is magic… let’s hope yours is too! :D

Lookin' fantastic Kendall. Wish I had your expertise.

Oh and as for the name "Big Pink Rod"....I'm sure Jen WOULD mind.....laughter gets painful after a few hours. :D

Cool to see the progress. After seeing the transition-state of the interior, and if I were in a self-deprecating mood, my reflex response for a name would be "Gutless" with the trailer logo "Gutless - It'll Give You Indigestion." Shoot me now...

Looks great Kendall.. Now hurry up, you got a month till Bristol.. hehe...

Hmm, for some reason, i seem to like "Secondhand Six"..

Love the color too.

The cage is welded to the frame. I can try and take some better close-ups this weekend..I just got home at 10:30 PM from the machine shop so I'm not doing it now! :)

To everyone else, I love the name suggestions! Art, I hope "Gutless" won't be the case when it's ready. :) Strikeeagle, if you don't know what "Sloppy Seconds" are, I suggest you DON'T ask any women. :D

Are you putting a headliner in it? I assume you're gonna haveta take the windshield out for that?

Yep and most likely...no real way around it. You can't weld the halo with it in, and without taking the windshield out I forsee some crumpling action going on. It might be possible to put it inside the car and maneuver it into place. I guess I'll find out. :)

The halo in mine was welded in with the headliner and windshield in place. However, since access to the top of the halo/downbar joint is obscured by the windshield, preventing the weld bead from encircling the joint, a gusset may be welded in to support the connection as per NHRA inspector. I see this pretty often. But since you need to install a headliner, that's another story.

It looks like there are several ways to do the halo. On mine they made the downbars one piece from the main hoop and welded a crossbar for the front bar of the halo. On some others I've seen a "C" shaped halo bar welded to the main hoop with the front downbars welded to it.

I might well have been able to get more interior parts into the car but it was certainly easier without them. The car had a burgundy leather bench interior and I hated it so it's getting changed to GN-style grey and black. That's about the last priority though..I want to get it running, ugly and all, then we'll start the beauty process. I guess it stays "Gutless" for right now! :)

I think you really like the Big Pink Rod moniker. Thought of this one on the way to work: Rose from the Dead/Ashes/Grave. Pick one.
