cam sensor not turning?

no start. Replaced various parts including cam sensor disk(rjc) Trouble shot and found cam sensor disk not turning. Can you break a cam sensor?

Its driven off the camshaft. Your gear(S) may have an issue. Pull out the entire sensor and have a looksee.
 
i removed the cam sensor. Cam sensor is fine. FML i filmed inside the shaft and nothing turns.

i know what i am doing this weekend. I never replaced the timing chain or gears on the last rebuild. Will keep you posted. Looking for double roller chain and gears i guess

If you left an original 80's timing set in there, there's a very good chance it's time for a new set.

Have someone spin the engine over and look in the cam sensor bore and see if the timing gear is turning....
 
Bent some rods and going to rebuild. Stroker or no stroker?

The bolts fell off the cam gear. I removed the valve covers and found two of the push rods loose. One on each side.

Is it common for cam gear bolts to loosen and fall off? Should this be something my builder takes care of?
 
No it is not common. I would say tightening the bolts falls under the builder's responsibility.

Put a dial indicator on the two loose pushrods and see if the cam lobes are still full height.

and yes, your enging builder should have torqued the cambolts properly. Most people use a dab of locktite as added insurance.
 
Spoke to my mechanic. Not very happy but will repair what is broken at his cost. Let's see if it holds true....

That's EXACTLY why I'm the only one in the shop, when assembling an engine. Someone shows up= the engine is covered up, and I start back when they leave.:eek:
As I complete the assy, each task is written down, and checked off when completed.
 
He is also the only one in the shop and the only person who has touched my motor other than plugs and oil, which I do myself. One cam gear bolt was literally lodged on the bottom of the timing chain cover. The other looked like it held on as long as it could and finally came off. Both bolts were basically unscathed.
