i have used an adj pushrod checker
and also 12" dial calipers to confirm

stock rockers, stock length pusrods(somewhere around 8.680)
used a wire guage (.040" biggest my set went) still too much preload, looked to be at least double

so i do the no lash thing with the adj rod, add 30-35 and come up with my number wich was around 8.625

i confirmed this number by making the adj rod this lentgh ,installing and rechecking preload, came out close enough

NOW
i order pushrods

didnt get the size i wanted (but thats a diff story),actually ended up with 8.605"

i was very worried they would give me enough preload

so i installe dhtem anyway, go to check my preload ,wtf still way over .040"

i came down apx .080" in pushrod length
and i see no change in preload, what the heck could i have possibly done wrong???

i checked on three diff cylinders before ordering

even if i measured wrong even if i was 100 deep in there and came down 80, i should have seen the diff,my 40 guage shouldnt have fit

i am stumped

i checked both by having lifters 180 off the ramp, and also tdc comp both confirming no lift off cam(valves closed)

any info would be greatly appreciated

hmmm ,what if??

after reading some posts

i am strating to wonder if i have a valve stem height issue

i would think 3 out of 6 cylinders would have done it, but now i wonder if that wasnt enough

whats the best way to check the height, put a straight edge across???

or should i measure from the bottom (where spring sits) u to the top of the stem???

any info would be appreciated

I know this question isn't helping you matter but how do you check lifter preload?

Thanks, burnout

A straightedge across the tops will at least tell you if they are all different.... cant really get an accurate measurement with a ruler for installed height but that wont be needed if they all measure the same.

Measure again with the adjustable pushrod. You either measured wrong or wrote the wrong # down. :D Good luck,Frank

thanks guys

i am going to take another wack at it to be sure of what i am measuring

thanks
