Can I make Stage II heads run on the street?

I’m finally doing something with my SII. The block is 267ci, not sure of the compression but was in a fast car (around 8sec) so probably low. I was going to run some aluminum champion style heads because I want to drive this car a lot, daily if possible, and think they’ll be better on the street. Then I got to thinking, since I have the room, why not try to run the huge SII heads? Car is tubbed, sorta pro street, and really would like to use the bigger heads. Will be using 4L80E transmission. Since I’m assuming the compression is in the 8s, and with the big heads, it might be too doggy. Can a well designed cam, proper converter stall, and rear gearing be combined so I’ll enjoy driving it daily? Thanks.

Get in touch with Mr Spool , He has a stage II car with the stage II heads . The right turbo will make a world of difference in spool & responsiveness .

Thanks. Since I have your attention, and anyone else - how about a Lenco manual behind the SII? I checked the prices of a well built 4L80E, and will be comparable to Lenco. I prefer to row my own, and should take care of having to select proper TC lockup and whatever and maybe be better for lag. Just not sure about spooling turbo without a load on the tranny. Not a real fan of all the levers, so if another type of regular manual can work would be good to know.

I've only heard of one guy on here putting a manual trans in a Turbo Buick and it was a few years ago , check out T56 swap .
The main thing that has changed is turbo technology , as in the instant spool of Comp Hubless turbos . Like I said before contact or PM Mr Spool as he has been racing / street racing since the early 90's and has run or worked on just about any combo you can think of . Click on this thread .
 
There have been a few guys over the years that have done it and it's not a problem.

Go with a roller cam in the 220 range and let it rev. For street use, yes absolutely get the correct converter. HPT or Comp can set you up with a crazy responsive turbo that will work on the street, especially in an 8 to 1 CR motor.

If you are willing to spend Lenco money, I would suggest a well built 200 from Husek or Lonnie Diers and you will save over a Lenco. Instead of a Lenco maybe try a sequential 6 speed built with a fun lever, the best of both worlds. Whatever you do, get something with overdrive for the street. Helps a lot

Running the motor on E85 will help with response across the board.

Definitely overdrive wanted! I do have a LD 200 in one of my Ttypes. I thought about pulling it and using in the new car, but I still have ported aluminum heads and another LC2 engine, so will keep tranny in that car. I’m looking for high hp out of this combo, and have two 4L80Es here. I’ve heard that tranny is better than a 200 for high hp applications. The LD tranny came in a car I bought from a friend, and pretty sure it is a full boogie 200.
I’ll look at the 6spd you mentioned. If I liked the looks of the Lenco shifters more would be hard tempted to go that way, still am. Open to all options at this point. Lots of great info, thank you.

Your not going to be able to manually shift any H pattern as fast as these cars spool up and go, 1000 fwhp and under go for a 200-4r by Husek
As cool as a T-56 is, technically its only gonna slow you down in these cars

Thinking around that much hp, maybe more. If I can make more time to commit to the track I’d like more hp. maybe staying lower on hp will be better for daily driving. Should be deep into 9s which is good.
