Can I run Direct SCan on my Home Computer--how

Well I bought a ME-R setup and for the high price I got a laptop that doesnt work ,,so I tried to make sure DS disc is good by inserting it in my "A" drive,,doesnt do anything,is my disk good ,,please tell me how to run this so I know if my disk is good....
