I know this comes up alot but your help is greatly appreciated.

Here's what I can find on/in the tranny:

"423" cast into bellhousing area

381000
9538WM stamped into housing on top of pass. side

Hydramatic
8634005 cast into bellhousing on drivers side lower

4DH504387 stamped on pad near gasket surface on lower driver's side just ahead of the tail shaft

Valve Body:

"R" stamped in yellow paint on pass. side

990 (066?) in white paint on the driver's side

4203*D
Y AG
cast in the bottom

No "pink" paint or any other color that I could see.

Thanks,

4DH504387

That's the end of the VIN of the car it came from. D, the 8th from end, is the year, 1983. That's all I can tell so far.

Richard,

I just replied to your e-mail about this as I had not seen this post until now. That is a TCI 200-4R, part number 381000. The serial number is a 'repair' number so that corresponds with what you stated to me in your e-mail.

Our 200-4Rs do not begin life here as a TR unit as we do not sell on a core exchange basis and, relatively speaking, original TR cores are rare as hen's teeth. The valve body was recalibrated to work with the TR governor that's in there though.

The rest of the build-up follows the bullet points shown here :)

A little mixup...

Greg,

Thanks for the info in your e-mail but that question was about how to ID one of your TCI trannys. This post is in regard to the tranny that I already have. Does this mean that it's a TCI tranny, too? That "381000" would indicate that wouldn't it?
But I can't decipher the "Julian Date code" as you described it.

"9538WM" could you decode that for me?

Richard

Yes, that too would be a TCI 2004R. As I said earlier, that serial number is a 'repair' number. It follows a diiferent convention then the new trans serial numbers. I could look it up for you in the repair dept. if you're interested when it was built.
