I have a SS Impala that I dont drive to often, so I decided to take a drive. Music thumpin and rollin sorta gangsta I come to a red light and noticed an aweful smell. So at first I didnt think much other than " somebody chit on fire". because I just know it aint me. So the light turns green and I see smoke coming from under the hood on the passenger side, " holy chit" I pulled over at a gas station and popped the hood...

Field Mice!! made a nest between the intake and the fire wall and the grass was burning on the exhaust. Quickly put the smolder out with 44oz of water from the Bubba Cups at the gas station...No problem found so far other than a few wires knawed and loads of crap that looks like a Great Dane took up residence.:mad:

What if anything can I do to keep this from happening again?

Mouse traps on the intake? Or maybe a cat? Or drive the car more often?

We have the mice issue at the parent's house...there's a few cars that sit more than they are driven.

The worst is when they get INSIDE and make a nest in the glove box using cushion pulled out from under the seats. And don't get me started on when they piss inside of the car. I've heard mothballs are supposed to fix this, never have tried it and don't know if it's true.

And if it's not mice, it's squirrels storing acorns on the intake. It gets interesting when the throttle doesn't return on the TB due to acorns holding it open.

Damn rodents.

That is crazy, glad you caught it in time! I had a mouse eat some poison then crawl up on my brand new intake and die... Found it months later, when I didn't drive the car that much... :(

Bounce drier sheets will keep the mice away. Sounds stupid but it works

Yikes

After reading this I'm not going to complain anymore about the cat foot prints I find on my car.......

I will try that first since I have that already! Where do you put it: Glove box, under seats, tucked in the engine compartment somewhere?

My Corvette has a whole box in it:biggrin: under dash panels center console under seats. My mouse problem went away one day and we could not understand why. Then we found out why.My neighbor tore down his above ground pool. Well let me tell you guys how many snakes live under pools:eek: I hate snakes too. I got a snake pit under my front stoop. At least 20 snakes in there and ever since that we have seen not one mouse. So feel free to come and get some snakes this summer:biggrin:

I use these too, haven't had a problem. Told a friend with a '69 Mustang who had a mice problem what I used. He laughed, said he used those too. That's what they used to make their nest. :p

hello ladies and gents: In last nights news 03/30 a women was having car problems. A squirrel had made a nest right on top of the engine and there where 3 or 4 new borns there. She said she had the hood open about 3 weeks ago to add washerfluid and there was nothing there then. They ate through some wires and it cost here like $600 to fix it.
