Carlsbad drag strip?

Do any of you local So. Cal. guys "play" at this track?

Their schedule shows drag racing every Saturday. About time to leave the 110 deg. heat and try some test-n-tune where it is cooler.

On Sunday, July 27, they also show to have an Outlaw meet. At the San Marcos Ramada rooms are available at $55.99 a night, sounds cheap for a summer rate in that area. May be a good weekend to come to the "cool coast" for a fun weekend!

Carlsbad Race Track

Hello Again Nick,

Yes, most Saturday's they do race at Carlsbad, and on Sundays they do as well with all the faster cars. I really don't know if you've been at this particular track before, but to tell you the truth, I just hate driving on the rough dirt road getting to it.

I would really suggest you to go on racelegal.com website and get an update on the 1/8 mile track here at Qualcom Stadium and also the new 1/4 mile track that was just recently built at one of the Indain reservations not to far away. Not quite sure where as I just came back home from Iraq, but I will tell you, racing is getting very big here again, and the politicians are helping more than ever in give us a legal place to race.

At Qualcom Stadium there are several 9 - 10 sec 1/4 mile cars that race there just to give you an idea.

Carlsbad Raceway

Hi Nick!
Carlsbad Is not much of a track. The biggest problem is the road leading to it & the track is not maintained very well. But I have had some good times there through the years. Back it my glory days I ran a scarey160mph so a Chute is a must over 140mph because of short shut down area. The elevation is about 400 ft. & this time of the year expect some 85 degree temps its also close to the ocean which is a plus. If you decide to go I would also suggest that you call ahead to make sure its open that day. Regards Lou

Thanks for the info guys.

Not worried about the dirt road as we have to deal with that at one of our tracks here. Suburban has seen worse roads I am sure.

Last time at the track here couple weeks ago it was 100 deg. and about 4500' density altitude at night - 400' and 85 deg is a welcome change. Maybe I will get a break and see 70's in the AM? the 1/8th mile track would be ok for fun, but need to tune for the 1/4.

Talked with the track manager on the phone the other day and track is open July 26 & 27. Also will bring the wife as she will welcome the "cool" weather for a couple days too.

Meeting up?

Nick,

If you do end up coming to Carlsbad for a short getaway from that blazing hot Arizona sun, let me know. We can meet up at the track and who ever else that may want to show up too. It should be a good time! Let me know!

Sounds good, I plan to be there the weekend July 25-27. Couple others may want to leave the desert for a weekend also. Will stay in touch, thanks.

Nick thinking about go to Carlsbad

Nick don't forget the BGNRA is having a CAR SHOW on July 20th the weekend before the date at Carlsbad It would be nice to see you guys at the 11th Annual BUICKS at BATES Nut Farm which is about 30 miles from Carlsbad. We also have two Casinos near the Car Show. Hope to see you guys there. If you need more info check the club Web Site at http://www.bgnra.org

Thanks for the time, Steve Hurst-President-BGNRA

Fontana is also an option with July 12, 19, 26th open for drag. 1/4 mile track with new lights and bleachers. They call cars in order according to number givin, not ALL domestics and ALL imports. 10 bucks to get it 10 bucks to race......Track opens at 3pm and starts at 5pm goes till 11pm!!!

Nick, I also race at Carlsbad and if the track is prepared correctly, you should see good ET's and excellent MPH. With the outlaw race on the 27th, the track gets a large turnout for sat. (guys wanting to test a day before the outlaw points race) however they usually make an effort to lay down some VHT for both days.
The guys that run the track use to be hostile toward the GN's (I think Lou can explain it better then I) but over the years they have warmed up to the GN's beating up on the V-8's. Couple words of advice:
Always follow their instruction
Do not go crazy with a John Force type burnout.
Get there a least and hour before it opens. This will insure getting a pit spot in a paved area (yes they also have pits in the dirt)
Good Luck,
Jeff
PS if my car is running, I will try to join you

Looks like a plan for July 26-27 at Carlsbad!

May have another one or 2 GN's from Phoenix also. Reservations are made a San Marcos Ramada for Friday and Sat nights.

Thanks for all the good info, and look forward to meeting some of you there. Will have my white T towed by a blue Suburban

Nick, I will bet ya a beer that the road into Carlsbad is the worse you have ever been on. It sucks. My riceburner buddies hate it. With their lowered Civics, the bumps are hell.

I will definitely have to get there on those dates to finally meet up with the Arizona gang. Doubt the GN will be ready by then. I am shooting for Las Vegas.

See ya there! ERIC.

Track is at Barona Indian Res. and currently you can only use an 1/8th mile of it.

Taffy, I think the guys that run Carlsbad do not want to fix the entrance road in order to discourage the riceburners. My friend who drove in with his Vett was kicked off the track because he picked up some dirt (got trapped in the lower scoop) from the entrance road and it released onto the track after his burn out!

Gonna be fun!

Hey fellas

I'm absolutely stoked about all of the turbo cars getting together soon at Carlsbad, hopefully there will be a good turn out and I'm already passing the word here. So in saying this, lets not let down all those die hard buick enthusiast down ;)

1 BADDAM - Long time no see brother! Look at those mods in ur signature, are you trying to go faster or something:p Hope to see you down there for some new times. I too should be runnning a little faster now, with a couple of new mods I just got done.... Hope to see you there man, good to hear from you. Also where is the new hang out up in San Diego? Let me know ;)

Nick,

Not a problem for the info about the track and what not, just be safe getting here, I would like to see that beast of your run a couple of times

Regards

Ray

I will see you guys there! I need to do some testing/programming with the new combo. It would be a great experience to have a handful of turbo v6's descend upon the "lovely" Carlsbad dragstrip/hole =) Someone should give Neal Steward a call and see what he's up to that weekend. Looking foward to seeing you guys -

Talked with Neal yesterday and he knows of our plan. His car is down but he will be there.

Picked up an alum block at TA Perf today. Seems Mike and family will be in Carlsbad that weekend. He plans to come by the drag strip sometime Saturday, and maybe get together with some of us that evening.

He might have a new block with him. I plan to bring a new alum head as they were machining them today.

Also heard a rumor today a GN or 2 from Vegas may show up?

No matter how bad the track conditions may be, after a couple weeks of 110+, I could sit there and enjoy the day, and hope to make a pass or 2!

A pass or 2? At Carlsbad you can probably get 15 throughout the day if you really want to!!
