Jim for what your doing the cat rods will be fine. But you know me, if it was mine I'd spend a few bucks more and go with the K-1's.

Thanks Mike. I am hesitant about reusing the stock rods since they are 22 years old and have had some abuse, but I may still do that. If I don't reuse them, I will probably go with the CAT's since they will be better than stockers.
 
I understand wanting to upgrade parts but the stock rods have proven to be extremely dependable in these motors. I haven't heard of too many rod failures--actually I don't think I have ever heard of any--not saying it hasn't happened but its pretty uncommon. From what I have seen its seems to be the main caps or the crank that goes first.
 
I bit the bullet and ordered K-1's. The stock rods are old and have been abused throughout their time in the engine. Since the engine is in pieces, I just feel safer getting new rods.
