Trunk light switch is built into the metal assembly, most likely a mercury switch and unserviceable.

Not to mention extremely dangerous if you happen to be standing in CA. :p

Brian's test is right on for checking the assembly and switching action. :)

Ok thanks for the info on checking but if the switch is bad why would I replace the socket? Why not the switch, unless it is not replaceable? Can the switch be purchased/replaced if found bad?
Thanks guys.

I'm still chasing a drain in my car too...dang it!

However, another item you might want to check is the powermaster motor. What I did to locate the culprits was to have someone reading the amp meter and I'd start pulling fuses until I found the circuit (or circuits in my case) that had a load.

Once isolated, I noticed that if I unplugged the powermaster motor it would cut the amp draw by about .3....then, of course, as mentioned above, I found the delayed fan relay was toast and causing a HUGE draw of about 1.

So, get a friend and start pulling...I think it will save you a ton of time....

I found that most of my draw lies with the radio circuit...but still can't figure out why or how to cut it down....good luck with yours.

drain pain

similar prob. dead batt. did the chase. found radio was the cause, but was trying to lower the antenna even when off. ant. was already down. under the hood you could hear a click at the same time the meter spiked 6amps. more delco junk and i work there.

I have a digital climate control, and found the blower motor was coming inin the middle of the night. It was the little circuit board in the airbox cover where all the wires a plugged into.
