Well, got kicked out of another cruise nite tonite because my 87 GN is "too new". Anyone else running into this lately. The cruise I went to tonite, I have attended with the GN the past 6 years without any problems. Now all of a sudden it is too new.

So much for leaving work early, detailing the car and flying up there so I could meet some friends and drive in together.  Love these guys with fiberglass street rods who consider there cars "old" even though they were popped out of molds within the past couple of years and don't have one vintage part on them.:D These guys are stuck in the 50/60's I guess.

Maybe I will just put the GN on ebay and pick up a 64 Mustang with a 6 cylinder so I can go to these cruises. Guess it is time to just start racing all the time, at least there aren't cutoff dates at the track.

Funny thing is, my GN is probably faster than about 90% of the cars at these cruises but to them it is just another "Monte Carlo".

I am heading back up there now as a spectator to meet up with my friends and there sure as hell better not be anything in the lot newer than 1972. I know the president of this club and plan on giving him an earful when I see him.

The crowd appreciated the little display of speed as I left the area.:D

Which one was this?

Wallingford, Granby?

I wouldn't go back at least not tonight.... ;)

Mark, never had a problem round here. In fact I go to cruise nites that only allow pre 79 and thery welcome me with open arms. The Gn around here is legendary:) Everyone loves em:)

Same thing happened to me but eventually I got in under the "special interest" clause. I got my plaque so I won't get harassed again until next year.

The problem is that there are two types of people running these things:

1) People who don't know what a Turbo Regal is
2) People of the opinion that a real musclecar has a V8. The very thought of a V6 wasting their 8 MPG rod makes them wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat

Neither the type 1 or type 2 people are interested in granting us access to their shows.

Jim

FWIW & IMHO:
Don't Move to Ca. then. There are very few shows that you can get a GN/T-Type/Turbo-TGNX/TTA in, and fewer cruises. I would not sell my car on account of it though. One of the better cruise spots, Fuddruckers in Lake Forest, Ca. seperates the years by letting the early? pre 72 or so park in a seperate area next to the late model cars. I try not to sponsor too many of the early model only car shows by not going to them.

Although I have never had any issues I have hear of a few places in MA that discriminated against a GN and a TTA. I guess up here the cruise night people are more interested in filling up the parking lot for the 50/50:D

This has recently happened to me in Crystal Lake Illinois. Same story, I have owned several different cars in the past, always am courteous to the people living there and patronize the local businesses while I am there (not alcohol).

This year the went completely Nazi on those of us who are mature, and good for the event and local economy. I got booted onto a different area and parked my TTA between a minivan and a newer LS1 SS Camaro. Yippee, that was fun. The Camaro guy keeps telling me how great his car is and how great it is Chevy brought the LS6 back. Then rags on Chrysler for bringing back the Hemi and not making it a 426 c.i. HELLO NEWMAN....How big is the new LS6?? Then I tell him to read an article in one of the mags where they plainly state the Hemi has vastly more out of the box performance potential than the LS motors and he turned several shades of red. Koolaid drinker!!

So, I have quit going F-'em. I am completely against this type of class punishment. I hate rice as much as the next guy, but this is a free society. I am considering getting a petition going or passing out flyers poining out how lame this idea is and where guys like me can bring their car and park next to a ratty '74 Malibu without being harassed.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Same thing happening here.
Pre 79 and after
I don't fit in with any group
Most of the old people are hot rodders and the young people are mustang, camaro, foreign.
I feel the GN fits in better with the pre 79 goup.
I went to the after, and except for one old guy with a new SSR and me everyone was young.
They were nice and liked my car but me and my car felt out of place.
At least I can drive the 442 to the pre.

Well i dont understand why they just dont do no rice allowed, why must they put a block on the years if it is american and it is muscle then let it show, i dont understand ppl sometimes, i think its just like a power trip, because he pushes somebody elses paper around at work he wants to power to turn away ppl at a car show, friggen winner's they are.

Yeah there was a post out there about Kimbills Ice cream in Westford mass & rileys roast beef in Framingham mass.
Booting Turbo cars in general. FXXK UM I won't go even as a specky.

The way around it is Special Interest..

Even at the nostalgia drag race/shows they stop at 1972 which is crazy because they years keep moving ahead.. they should be up to 1980 now

Mark time to start your own show.

mark i have had several like that, i just roll with it, no sense in getting pissed... i mean yes i do think its stupid and the cutoff should be 89 but thats just IMO I mean honestly how many 80s cars do you see on the road, not alot at all :(

Funny you should say that. Back in the early 80's I couldn't get into shows because my 1966 Chevelle was too new. Started my own car club and we put on car shows for almost 15 years with no cutoff date. We started at Moroso Performance in Guilford CT and then moved to Accel (Echlin) in Branford CT.

Time moves on and the club is still in existance but not really active at anything.:(

Left work early to go there as it started at 5pm and have gone to this even for the past 5-6 years and now all of a sudden I can't get in. Some of the cars were total crap but they were older than 1972. There excuse for the cutoff date is not enough room but hey, first come first serve should be the way it is.

Will see what show I will be turned away from this weekend.:D

Dang sucks for you guys I have been to several with the TTA already this summer at first I get the 89 GTA ?? shouldn't you be hanging out somewhere else Then I open the hood and everyone want's to be my friend :) I also show equal intrest in there cars so I think it helps.

I was disallowed from entering a show with my 1992 Typhoon. I expected nothing less from these so called car buffs. If it didn't fit their expectation of a hot-rod then you didn't get in. I understand their need to deny rice but a Typhoon is far from rice. I was ticked but the wife was down right furious. Newer 'vettes, Carmaros and Firebirds were in there but I can't get in with a 100% original 26,000 mile Typhoon? I could tell the hot-rodder organizer was clueless about Sy/Ty's and knew it was fruitless to try and explain it. I just knew what this guy thought "ain't no way I'm letting in this goofy slammed S-10 Blazer with ground effects".

I never experienced denial with any of my GN's. However my TTA seemed to be a bastard child too only because no one knew what they were. Even after I popped the hood no one knew what they were looking at. Maybe if I had it full of chrome but a spotless and stock LC2 in an F-body....no way. People just walked by and I'm sure they thought..."pretty lame 190hp 5.0 in that T/A, but at least it's clean".

The few times I've had my current GN at shows I've noticed the phenomenon that since I have a 2nd place trophy from Autorama the car gets a little more attention. I wonder why that is?

Here's a very sound tip fellas; Register your GN as a 1978 or1979 and get in the show! The body style is essentially the same and who's gonna verify your VIN??!! Most of these car experts aren't going know much about a GN in the 1st place to know the difference. If they call you on it just say "Oooops, I accidentally transposed the 7's and 8's. I meant to write 1987 instead of 1978" :D.

Hmmm, think I might have a solution. Someone I know is selling a 67 Nova that has been pro streeted but not finished. Awesome black paint job too. Just needs a motor and tranny installed. How about a LC2 transplant into one of those? Then I could get into cruises and still be a Buick guy too.

Wonder what I could get for my GN? Just hit 24,000 miles.
