Well, I may have an opportunity to pick up a set of CNC Champion irons for about $800. Are they worth it? I see them going for $1100 plus, so I was strongly considering it. The only thing is they were milled to get rid of the o rings so you'd have to run a .060-ish thicker cometic. Problem is, all I see on the cometic site is .040's. I was hoping to run cometics or RJC's but am a little nervous about being stuck with a specialty HG, if even available. Whaddya think, worth it?

If this is such a great deal, why is it being sold so cheap? Do you have access to a machine shop or inspection place that can verify the integrity of the milling, such flatness, & amount of material actually milled off? I'd buy Champion ported irons fresh from Champion in a heartbeat, but second-hand, I probably would not. Also, when and if necessary, will Champion freshen them up, or shy away because they did not do the milling? HTH

I was kind of thinking the same thing. But I'll be damned if it isn't so hard to pass on those "too good to be true" deals. I will pm you details, think it may be a member, just not a SoCal member.

IF they are right that is a great deal! Good luck!

Personally, Id never buy used heads.

Especially from a person with a E-scam feedback rating of only 97.1%.
I might be lame, but I am not much of a gambler on used anything, and I have never regretted that decision. I have only put 1 or 2 parts on my car used, and those were stuff that could not be bought new anymore, and the parts came from good reliable friends. If you want fresh oats, well, sure they're expensive, but if you want used oats, well, those come very cheap. Horse will probably spit them right back at you, too. No parts of questionable integrity will ever go on my turbo brick.

Unfortunately these are not local or I would definitely try it out. After much consideration I think i am going to pass. Thanks for the help guys. It is truly appreciated.

I think those were posted here, I think he wanted 1100 for them set up for roller cam, 950 for stock setup. Something about it looked familiar when I saw them on e-bay. And what was the reason for going with oringed headgasket then milling it for a shim style, but only a big headgasket can be used? I'd buy a set from champion new. Stuff like that is just better to buy new IMO.

Yeah, you are thinking the same set, or at least the same person. I know it is simple to run a thicker HG (if available) but I don't want to have to "patch" anything.

Champion irons are great heads for only $1,200.00 new. Does'nt seem worth having to tear apart your engine, or blowing it up, to save a couple hundred bucks. If the chamber cc is too small from milling, you won't be able to run as much boost as you should. If the heads were not milled smoother then RA 50 (smoother is preferred) then your Cometics HGs will leak. How many miles are on the springs, valve guides, and seats? Unless you know the full history of these things, and trust the seller, I'd pass.
