Is changing lifters a hard task? Had the ticking noise on my passenger side diagnosed by a mechanic who believe its a lifter. I thought it was an exhaust leak but had them welded up nice and the ticking remained.

To change lifters you will have to remove the intake manifold.

Also will have to remove the rocker shafts to lift the pushrods out of the way

"Hard task" . . . . depends on your knowledge, skill set, tools and condition of your back.
It is pretty simple but takes work . . . . .
Remember to use a GOOD lube and be sure to break the lifter/cam in.

Pull the valve cover and check for bend pushrod, broken rocker shaft, work cam lobe before you get in too deep.
"If" these are all good and you are sure it's sticking lifter, you can try to put in a little bit of transmission fluid in the oil and see if it cleans the crud out.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Very true! On a HA, you will also need to remove the up-pipe, turbo . . . . . associated plumbing, etc
Taking it apart is not bad. Putting it back together and making sure it is "right" requires the skill and patience.

Ok it will be goin to a shop then lol... Do you have to remove the same things when changing the valve springs?
Some of it. It's a good idea to change the springs at the same time if needed.
Be sure to get the correct spings, and have them measured and shimmed if needed.

If it's a flat tappet cam it's not a good idea to change just the lifters. On a flat tappet cam the lifters wear match together and new ones will wear the cam out really fast. If you decide to do it then I'd honestly suggest that you go ahead and change the cam ect all at once so you don't end up with any problems later.

Agree . . . you are thinking too much :p . . . . . not "the best idea" but it can be made to work! :D

If you are going to change the cam, I suggest a roller . . . . . . now we are into pulling the motor and a complete performance rebuild . . . :D . . . $$$$
It all comes down to goals, budget, experience and philosophy. lol

This made me a lil nervous on doing it myself. Im going to take the valve covers off and take a look at what im get my self into. And I order the valve springs from kirban a while back. They 980s I believe

Wondering if one of you guys can explain how the valve changing tool works. I purchase one from cottons, didn't come with instructions lol.

When you say a lil bit of tranny fluid... how much is a lil bit? had tried a oil cooler to see if that the oil was getting to hot and caused the ticking, but that didnt help!

Is there a certain way to tighten the rocker shaft back on. When I put it back together the ticking got worse and cause knock now. I torqued it down to 25#'s.

Don't change them. Take them out one at a time, disassemble, and clean them.

I did this method because the ticking got worse and starting showing Kr. I did each lifter one by one and the only one that had ware was the last one ok the #5 cylinder. Yet the ticking sounded like it was coming from the #1 cylinder. I put it back together and still the same. So I'm guessing it may be a wiped cam lobe. Didn't know what that was until I looked it up. Is there a way to fix that or do I need a new cam? If so I think I can do the job myself and save money. Learned a lot from working on this car myself, is there a step by step on this site someone can point me too? And what cam and lifters should I go with? Not trying to go to expensive on a budget but need this car on the road.
