Gary Wells (So West mod) and I were at a big all GM car show today in Van Nuys, CA. I guess that I was getting a bit board and tryed some different ways of shooting our cars. Some turned out bad, but these were kinda cool.

Whats your secret?to making it look bad @ss:biggrin: or better yet do you due house calls:biggrin:

Nice! Looks a little dry out there??

Van Nuys. They still cruise the Boulevard out there? Was cruising Van Nuys Boulevard back in the 70's when I was out there and it was insane!!

The funny thing is, that Gary's 20,*** mile white T has a 22 year old paint job on it and looks great. My paint is over 12 years old.

I don't make house calls. At least, not for that.:D

No secret. Just hard work. I've got over 200 hours into coler sanding and buffing this thing. It actually stays prity clean once I made the paint all flat and shiny. This is a single stage acrylic enamel paint. There is NO clear coat.

This is a single stage acrylic enamel paint.

I guessed that just looking at the pictures. The only true black paint jobs are single stage. Clear allows the light to hit the base and reflect off of it, giving it a haze or gray look.

Nice car.

I beg to differ. My car has a lot of clear coat and I can tell you one thing its probely the nicest looking. Buick paint job you will ever see. But don't just take my word for it ask anyone who has seen the car. Its as straight as an arrow

There is a difference in looking good and being a true black car. Park yours next to one with a high quality single stage paint job and you will see. There is such a thing as a black candy which gives the appearance of a single stage with the protection of a clear coat. All high quality paints should be used.

- First coat: High solids black, true black not the brown haze stuff PPG used to put out.

- Sand and block down. Recoat with 50/50 mix of single stage and high solids clear, two coats. Followed by three or fours coats of clear.

- Now apply the flow clear in three or four coats.

-Sand and buff flat.

You can have a very shiny black paint job using clear coat. The problem is depth and DOI (Distinction Of Image) will suffer. Look at the pics that were submitted, notice that you can see everything in the reflection? You lose some of this when going the clear coat route. Just a fact that a properly applied single stage job will have much better clarity than a clear coat job.

Well said.

Also, this is a 12 year old paint job. I'd like to see any clear coat paint job look this good after that long. IMO, UV kills clear coats. They look really good for a year or two at the most. Then you start looseing that deep wet look as the clear fades.
