I need some help in checking the charge pressure in my EA built 2004r. Lonnie must be real busy because I've tried to get a hold of him with no luck.

How and where is it checked? What should it be?

I remember something about having to tap into one of the cooler lines with a pressure gauge?

Thanks for any help.

You need to install or t a pressure gage that can read up to 300 psi into the top cooler line and check readings. We have a way of keeping them @ or below 125 psi @ wot/full tv and 80 @ 1200 rpms w/no tv..Icheck them on the dyno before the in car test .Anything over 100 psi @ 1200 will usually skyrocket at max tv.

Is there an easy way to raise line pressure with only having the valve body off? Without removing the trans or pump.

Hrmmmm

I missed it the first time as well, Chris, Go back and read what you wrote, You are thinking of mainline pressure. If he has a discharge pressure of 100 psi or even near that , it is GOODBYE thrust bearing!!!!! Bad bad!

The way to measure discharge pressure is to yes install a pressure gauge that has a reading of hell 0-75psi into the top cooler line
If you ever see it over 30-40psi, you got an issue somewhere. It will wipe the main bearing right out of it.

Then just for giggles install it in the bottom returtn line and see what you get. Bet it surprises you. LOL

I never wanted to see more than 20 psi or so discharge pressure.

When there is a problem at wot killing thrust bearings pressures usually go way over 100.On the dyno before installing in the car we typically see 30 to 40 at min tv and 60 to 65 max, locked up pressures are similar but an increase in flow is noted.I have seen a few troubled pumps as well as stack plate coolers that put converter out pressures at 130 plus psi.Using the 300 psi gage makes readings more accurate when reading pressures above the norm.
