Anyone know of any good Chevrolet Silverado boards? Looking into getting one and need to read up on them. Any of you have one with the 5.3 v8? What kind of mileage do you get?

Thanks Jason

I probably get about 15 or so average, and I drive the snot out of it. Has about 92k and I havent had to change a brake pad! Only oil changes, fuel filters, clean the K&N and drive! Best A/C Ive ever had in a vehicle, and in the winter, the heat is there in a heartbeat. Very satisfied!!!!!!

http://www.performancetrucks.net/forums/ It's run by LS1tech but their truck section got so big they just made them a whole site. I used to post on there a lot before I got my TTA and there's a lot of knowledgable guys. It all depends on what you want to know but a lot of information for the LS1 will apply with the truck motors too as far as performance things go.

i have a 06 z71 5.3L all alum engine and it got 20 mpg on the way to the beach and back cruising @ 70 mph i love this truck oh yeah and 330 hp :)

Is the all aluminum block just 2006?

Thanks Jason

All the vortec 4.8L and 5.3Ls are aluminum blocks and the 6.0L and 8.1Ls are iron blocks. Pretty much everything is interchangeable between the 4.8, 5.3, 6.0, LS1, and LS6 though. Atleast I know the heads, cam, and intake are all the same basic design but some work a little better than others.

well no they are not for a 99-03 i know they have a iron block my company truck has a iron block 5.3 99 model. my bossman's suburban has a iron block 5.3 it's a 03 model.

i think the all alum 5.3 started in 05 along with the electric cooling fans.

Just traded my '99 5.3 for a '06 Duramax. I loved the truck but it was getting old. I think the 5.3 is the best thing GM ever put in a truck ( for a gas motor) Plenty of power and acceptable mileage. While I will never own another gas motor, I would recommend the chevy 5.3 to anyone who asks. I also think GM is miles ahead of Ford and Dodge in their transmission. I've tried to buy Ford's because of their incentives but I could not tolerate the slush box tranny.

I've owned my '94 Silverado since new, love the truck. But I redid it the way it should have came from the dealer :D 336rwhp Corvette LT4 motor and vette seats! Gets an average of 14.5mpg the stock throttle body injected motor only got about 13mpg. Over 160k miles on it now.
Here's another board for ya

Thanks guys. I know a gasser is never as good as a diesel but I'll only be towing an 18 foot open trailer maybe 6 times a year.

Thanks Jason
