Whats the easiest way to clean the underside of my car. I plan on putting POR 15 on the undercarriage. Most of the underside has the typical factory undercoating but with oil and grime now. I was anticipating taking a wire wheel on a grinder and a scraper... Any thoughts? either way i expect it to be very messy...

thanks,
Nathyn

Hey Andy...

How did you get the body off the frame. I did not see any hoist or anything in your pics. What did you use!!

Was there anything to look out for when taking the body off??

We did it the hi-tech way.....a floor jack and 4x4's. I was doing the body bushings anyway, so we decided to pull the frame out to clean and paint it. it took a few extra hours. you have to remove the brake lines and the e-brake and just watch that nothing else is holding you up as you lift the body.

hope that helps

It would be a ton easier if the frame is off...i just crawled out from under my car to grab a bite to eat and check my email, and let me tell you that using a wire wheel on a grinder makes your arms real tired. But it works, you can't get everywhere, but the beauty of using POR 15 is that you don't have to remove the rust if you don't want to. I just wanted to make my underside nice and smooth. Oh it gets real dirty under there with a grinder...i am filthy head to toe....

welp...back under the car i go....

Iwant to swap my frame out because I had a little fender bender with a minivan!!!

Andy... where did you start?? Back? Front? middle? When the body was on the 4x4... did any part of the body bend?? (thanks for the previous reply)

Nathyn... good luck on your cleanup!!! :)

later.... dave:cool:

Dave, i think we started at the back, it was a little tricky getting the rear wheels to clear, but other than that it was pretty straight foreward.

in this pic, you can see where i placed the 4x4's, no damage to the underside at all, but the interior and wverything else in the car was stripped out of it b-4 i started.
