hi everybody , this is more of first hand testing results sharing then a question thread so here we go ......few weeks ago I got set up with coil on plug ignition by Cal ,reasons .... LS1 coils will be around for years , stepping away from waste spark system was also part of my decision ,we all know that you can go fast with stock ignition , we also know that you will go fastERRRR with distributor set up , we know that because we know that anybody with stock ignition will have to gapp plugs realy tight like 0.022-25" to keep fireing them under high boost/load and distributor will let you open them up well.........I am reporting here that Cal's COP system will let you do same , last night got my first track test done ,did not do very fast passes since my 60' were in 1.8 range lounching at 5 PSI , idea was to test the ignition for the first time , car ran 10.5 at 128 MPH ,26/ 27 PSI on pump gas and Alky with plugs gapped at 0.035" hitting 6500 RPM and no PROBLEMO at all , more to come but so far I am one very happy customer ,thanks to Cal Hartline :):):)

Good 2 hear. We have one going on my car and have tested it already on Bisons car.

We plan to keep the coil pack on for now and do some dyno testing and then swap it out for the COP and see what real world advantages there are between the two.

On my Zo6 (coil on plug from the factory) they call for .055 or .060 gaps on plugs and run to 6500+ rpm all day long.

as soon as you can directly control the dwell of the coils and can run full dwell, there is no RPM limitation. This is the advantage of the coil-on-plug systems.

The only limitation then becomes the ability to fire the mixture in the chamber under compression. This is where you need a good, strong coil, good wires, and a good plug.

The LS2 coils have quite a kick.

Thanks for the update Greg! I will be emailing you back later today. I look forward to your next trip to the track. This time let me know how the sequential rev limiter works  I have sold quite a few sets recently and hope to have several others post their results soon.

TurboBob , I just wonder about plugs selection now ,did it got bigger ???Autolites worked best for me when tight with stock ignition but now ???? I will be testing plug gap limits with XIM COP but I am also tempted to try others .....E3,irrodium ???? what do you think

In my opinion, once you have enough ignition power the selection of plug and the gap gets less critical.

You want a good quality plug in the proper heat range. A reasonable gap so the spark can ignite the mixture. And change them reasonably often when running leaded gas.

makes sense , but I will tell you that I like experimenting and one time :redface:I put E3 plugs in my car ,that was with DIS4 sytem I had before I switched to COP and the car would idle better then ever at 14.8 to 15.0 AFR with the 220/224 cam I am useing and pulled very strong at the track however after 6/7 passes when I pulled them they looked very weird ,Alky doing it to them or what ......I was not waiting to find out and put my Autolites back in ,had to fatten up my idle AFR a bit but it was back to normal

that's the plan Cal , this week she gets to lounch hard off two step however in the past I had mixed results on my MT 275/50/15 radials , maybe it was track prep , maybe was my car , will see
