Marny Plog
a.k.a Mrs. John Plog:)

Thanks, Mark, for your follow through with the track arrangements. I plan to be there on the 12th of October with the kids, Richard and Ken, and try to take out three Ford competitors on the 13th of October. Let's put Team Buick on top this time!! Dick W

Wow I'm surprised it's going to happen. I've been planning on it not happening. I guess I'll get up to the shop and work on the Firehawk.

Please help getting your West Texas buddies and your other friends to sign up. We need all the cars that we can put together.

We'll do it Phil. Some are griping about the long drive, but I told em it's not much further than Noble was, it's only like another 1.5 hours.

I am local to Ark City so if there is any information you still need to know about lodging or whatever just let me know. I will be glad to help support the event anyway I can (distribute flyers...ect). I'm on the other side of the fence, but you can count me in on this race. I appoligize in advance if there is a commitment list for the ford guys somewhere else on the net because I couldn't find it. This is the only site that comes up when you search "buick vs ford shootout".

Mike: Glad to see you are coming.

I believe that Mark will be posting a lot of infomation about the event in the near future.

I have tracked the commitments for the Buick side for 7-8 years and never bothered to track the Ford guys; there is a lot of them and they do show up.

I'm going to bust it and try to get the turbo 6.0 car there :D Still got a lot of work to do and stuff to buy, but I'm planning on having it running by the end of September and dragging it up there for a couple runs.

What is a good place to stay? Still need to reserve a room.

John
My first choice would be:
First Council Casino Hotel- 1-580-448-3225
12875 N. HWY 77 Newkirk OK 74674
The rooms are around $105 per night and the hotel is about 3 miles south of Ark City. Plus the parking lot is big enough for a truck and trailer.
My second choice would be:
Super 8- 1-620-442-8880
3228 N. Summit, Arkansas City KS 67005
The rooms are around $85 per night, and located on the north end of Ark City. It also has room for some trucks and trailers. There is one more nice hotel with a swimming pool right next to the super 8 called atrium garden hotel but they recently had some bug problems(about 6 months ago) so I cant recomend them with out knowing they have it cleaned up. All the hotels are almost exactly the same distance from the track, and the track is 6 miles west of Ark City.
If anyone need any more info, just let me know.

How about some campgrounds for the guys that will bring some motor coaches.
Walnut Park campgrounds are going to be the easiest to get around in if you don't camp at the track. I don't know if there is electrical hookups or what all is available. You'll just have to call 620-441-4444. It's right off highway 166 and is only about 7.5 miles from the track.

Any more updates on this? Someone needs to change the date on the first post of this thread, I know when I am thinking about going to an event & can't remember the exact date I go to the thread & read the first post ONLY.

it's rather quiet. I hope you peeps are still coming to this so it's not Plog racing and me hopefully racing and possibly sitting it out. That would make for a quick event.

It would be even quicker than that if they don't get the track opened up Will. Found their facebook page & it looks as if the track has not been open yet this year. Some holdup with "the farmer". No news if they even will be opening.

John: I have changed the opening post for this thread.

Update on Ford versus Buick Shootout 2012
The Ford vs. Buick Shootout was scheduled be held on October 6, 2012 at Mid-America Raceway near Ark City, Kansas and, as in the past, a list was to be maintained and posted of those who commit to come to this event. The event was rescheduled for October 13, 2012; however, the track remains closed and there has been no information from Mark Schackelford posted in the past 30 days.
We had hoped that everyone who attended the Noble event would return and we would have the largest and fastest team we've every had.
I will post any update of information on date and location that I may receive.

from speaking with Mark last week. we still have till the 13th of this month to put the race on. Mark has not spoken to the owner in a good while. he's been calling and leaving messages, but still no word. unless we can come up with a different track, it looks like it's over for this year.

dammit. I've been living in my garage trying to get this car together in time. I guess if it doesn't happen this year, we can have time to get something together for 2013.

Well guys, if they don't get it open by this weekend (Sept. 22,23), chances of racing at midamerica will be slim to none. This weekend is the largest event of the year for the track by far. It's the Last Run car show which brings in anywhere from 650 to 800 cars plus there's usually 100 to 300 cars and at least a thousand spectators minimum at the track. As much as I would love for this event to happen at Ark City, you may have host this event somewhere else this year. On a positive note...if you like car shows and enjoy watching old and new hot rods crusing main (Summit) street after the show, come on up this weekend.
