Interested in upgrading my cam from my Lunati 210/205. This present cam is a real winner in my book, but I go thru the traps at 5600-5800 rpm and am looking for a tad more top end breathing. My comb is ( TE45a, THDP, GN1's, ported intake, billet caps at 2 and 3, { RJC girdle being installed}, 72's, 9' AC non LU, stock gearing, and 28'x9" slicks. Anyone w/ experience with this cam?, and would anyone have the specs and valve spring reqirements? Thanks Brian

well I hit reply thinking I had the card for it but it turns out I had the 218/222 from PTE. I also have card for a 212/212 from Comp. sorry

If you looking for small increases, you go from your current cam to a 212/212 or a 214/214. I run the 218/218 and will state (and many other will agree) that it is one of the noisest cams thanks to its fast ramp design. All will increase your "top end breathing." The TR vendor that supplies you with the cam can give you the spring requirements.

Wasthemadda? Is 129 too slow? ;)

I run the 218/218 comp flat tappet cam in my car. Works great for me. I have ran 11.38 at 121 mph with stock unported iron heads with upgraded 100 lbs valve springs. No problems!! I'm probably not taking full advantage of the cam because of my stock heads but that is soon to change with some Champion Irons and roller rockers very soon. I do agree this cam pulls pretty good top end but it does sound like a sewing machine.:D I don't remember where my spec card is at, but if I remember it had like a .469 lift and a 110 Lope Seperation. ;)

I know they cost $$, but rollers are really nice.......mine sees 5800 with the converter unlocked sometimes and it acts like it has a lot more (1.65 roller rockers)

I usually shift at 5600

you are haulin' for a non girdled stock block...I don't have the guts (or injectors) to turn up the boost.......(egt's below 1500.....)

Thanks guys! Steve, what are you running for lifters and how much lifter preload? Wonder why yours is not as noisy as the others. Do you have any specs? The valve springs that come w/ GN1's should be sufficient, but I want to check this out first.
Scott, 129.59 puts a smile on my face, but I am only .41 mph from the magic 130 and I want the car to have more left when I get there. Just feels like the last 100 feet or so, the motor doesn't pull as hard. Thanks Brian

Steve - Please advise if you ordered the "Race" grind of the 218/218 or the street/strip version. My understanding is that the race grind has the more aggressive ramp speeds.

I would try a taller tire first, isn't your tires 27 " tall? I think your rpms are too high.

I run the PTE 218R and it is noisy as others have stated. It does have more top end pull than my old 208/208 .460" cam which is a bonus.

As others have suggested swap to a taller tire and make the engine load more and keep you more in the peak powerband longer.

....... and 129mph is hauling ass..... but with GN1's I would expect even more out of them with a proper cam.

Ryan Guy (sp?) in OR went 9.99@135mph with the 218R cam with heavily ported iron heads and a T-76 turbo blowing hi psi in a full weight GN and modified stock ECU.

The ported iron heads on my car went 128mph in a 3400lb TType :) with TE-63 turbo. Can't wait to see what they do in my 2700lb RX-7 when I get a bigger turbo than stock.....

I run the comp 218/218 flat tappet cam. It works real good. I would say its a little noisy, but not much. Ive had real good luck with it so far. I've thought about stepping up to a roller cam ,but this works so good..why???

good luck

I agree. Great cam, but I love cam noise :D
Great up top, but haven't really been able to test it yet.

Craig T. I'm running 28"x9" now. Can't see a taller tire helping my ET's. I don't mind the 5600-5800 trap RPM's, just want a cam wich will better match my RPM band.

Uh, you may be talking about a different cam noise. I am talking about, and I believe others are too, the loud "lifter slapping" clatter that you get with this cam. Not the "rumpy, bad-as s rumble" I believe you are referring too.

Incidently, if the noise bothers anyone too much, you can upgrade to a 224/224. This cam has less-aggressive ramp speeds and is noticably more quiet.

AND has the bad as s idle you are looking for, I miss that idle, it makes your punky 6 cylinder sound serious, more so than the 218 by a margin.

It is like a light switch though, on or off. You will get top end with it too, it loves to rev, too much so for me. Go roller if possible. My cam is only a 210/210 and it revs to 6200 happily (the crank may argue the happy part though.)

Brian,
How much boost/timing did it take to go 129mph with the
TE 45a?

Thanks

I went 127 with a 45a at 25 psi .my car only weighs 3275 tho.just put a 218 in mine from jegs dont know what version its off the shelf quietest cam I ever ran.oh jason cramer went 9.96 with it.it goes lumpity lump.Im chasing some gremlins right now unrelated to the max effort r I currently swithed to.I had 10.9 volts due to a voltage drop across the dicconnect switch and the car went 10.67 at Morrocco. Then thought the fuel pumps were goin south so changed them .last saturday lifting cause of a bad miss in 3rd the car went 11.06 @98 mph(now I found a bad module) .hope the weather holds out for Edgewater this weekend to see if I got it ironed out before winter.I hope to see some 10.40s @ 129 or so soon .changing bumpers and went with a stevecraft race bar knocking my 60" down about a .10 seeing 1.42-1.47 normally.I like the cam just waiting for that good window and good pass!
Ill get it

I also ran that shaft. It rocks the house . Pulls very hard
at top rpm's. I had know problems with wiping any lobs with it
It's a good choice

GOOD LUCK TRUE UP THE BOOST AND HOLD ON !
