Compression

I am looking for some clarity on the topic of static compression and turbocharged engines. I was speaking with a SBC turbocharged owner and he is running 10.5-1 compression, 12psi boost, 19 degrees timing and 93 octane gas with no intercooler. If increasing the compression helps spool the turbo why are our motors 8.0-1. Why is it a bad idea to raise the ratio? Why do we keep our motors compression stock or very close to stock? He will not be able to run 87 octane as a cruiser but who would put 87 in their turbocharged gas tank?

Probably going to get different schools of thought on this one. I personally am running 9.6:1 and hear of others running higher. I have no problem spooling a 72mm turbo at all. We run more boost than the V8 guys so we arent going to get away with 93 octane like they can.
