Having weird problems with my computer the last week or so......as follows.

- On startup, Norton anti virus says: Another instance of the configuration is running.
- Yahoo/Msn chat messages are blank.
- Msn email will not open.
- ''Search'' menu is blank.
- ''Page cannot be displayed'' on microsoft links.
- ''Help'' buttons do nothing.
- Cannot access norton ''live update''.
- Cannot access ''system restore'' (blank screen comes up).
- Automatic updates, cannot turn on (greyed out).
- Click on a link and it does not work, or i get a blank screen or i get the page cannot be displayed.
- Windows media player stopped working.
Also when browsing from page 1 to 2 it skips a few hours of time on this board and i have to go back a page and refresh.

Tried everything over the last few days, nothing helps!

Any ideas?

TIA.

Mike, Try going into your perferneces folder with what ever application you use to run the internet and clear out the cache folder. Some people have it set to automatically delete the cache that is stored. Otherwise after some time of use these little caches end up storing huge memory and bog down your computer. Its usually under the Edit pulled down menu when you are logged on the net. Then scroll down to perfernces and a box will open up. I think its under advanced in that new box. Empty all of it and set it to automatically trash as you log on or off.

Ad-Aware SE

Sounds like you have been spyware infected. Most important thing is to have Windows SP2 installed, if you use XP. This greatly improves your protection! Below is three great free products!

Ad-Aware SE Free
SPY-BOT search and destroy also FREE
CW-SHEDDER Free, clears all cool web search products.

If you want GREAT PROTECTION for like $40 bucks you can get AD/SUBTRACT and SPYSUBTRACT and if you set right you will never have these problems again.
I spend alot of time on the net and had to have my system completley reloaded 3 times becuase of spyware. If you update your windows to SP2 and try these free products you should be OKAY! Use them everytime before you shut down your system.

I use all three free products along with the Ad/Sub and SpySub and do not have ANY pop ups or spyware problems any more.

Thanks guys, i had to take the computer in to get reformated......at the library now.
Hopefully that solves the problem!

The MS anti-spyware seems pretty good too. Anyone else have any experience with it?
