I have a Toshiba Satellite notebook. My next will be a HP from Costco. You know Gary have you thought about a Notebook? You can now get cards for them that will allow you to get on line anywhere. I am by no means a computer guru but that's why its always good to have Friends that are so they can guide you in the right direction.

I really only want a desktop for right now, Brent. but thanks for the suggestion. Javier a few posts up above has offered to help me, & show me how to install the programs & upgrades.

I'll throw my vote for the Mac.

I've used both PC and Mac and always found the Mac much easier to deal with.

With PC's you're always wondering when they are going to sieze up again. Sorta like Fords.

Just let know when you are ready gary have you tried to see if they have dsl in your area who is you phone provider i can point you in the right direction

computer novice opinion......

The IMac is an awesome package, got one last summer!:)

Here is my opinion as a person with "limited" computer skills.

The Mac is so simple to operate that it is hard to transition from a PC?

Best comment here was to buy it from an Apple store as their support and help is great. You can set an appointment to go in for help with a "Mac genius".

Here is my negative side that applies if you need Excel as I do for my business, so far it sucks.:frown: Sorta works, but a real PIA for me. The solution was to use my old PC for Excel and Quicken, and Mac for all else.

The internet on the Mac is so less frustrating than the PC. Hey, I have even learned to do the ITunes stuff and have great oldies music while I work!:D

Javier:
Sorry for the late reply, I have posted this twice, without the computer taking it. I am with AT&T. Hopefully, this time it posts up.

Nick: How did you try the Mac Excel? The one in the Mac "Iwork" application?
Or another program?

Thanks, Javier

I am paying $ 21.95 now (MSN) for people that don't even answer the phone, or when they do, it might take forever. Twice over this last week I waited for 1/2 hour and they still never answered. I guess that they knew it was me.

you can actually by Microsoft Office for Mac - which includes Powerpoint, Excel, & Word
Tis true, but I have heard that those vary somewhat from their MS Windows XP counterpart, basically that they are not exactly identical, and varying comments regarding how easy or not easy they are to use. Nick's is not the first comment that I have heard that it's not as good as Excel. I had been planning on usind Excel, even though I am far from competent with it, so I might end up having to dual boot and also run Windoes XP on the Imac in a seperate partition, plus all of the antispyware and security programs that it would require. Sounds expensive to me.

I was just at a new Best Buy store that just opened playing with the Imac 2.4 GHz intel core 2 duo processor at $1499, less any added upgrades. This is just a killer computer. I feel one of these coming on very shortly. Thanks for the help, everybody. They will probably start giving me the "look" shortly, from coming in and playing on their computer so much.

I got that, then I got Parallels that lets me run windows on the Mac. Either will run and work fine for new stuff, but I could not get my old Excel and Quicken program files loaded to work like I need?

Probably just my situation, but my old PC will do for my old stuff.:)

Nick; I was just looking at BB and I think that I read that the MS program for imac that has excel in it needs Windows Office 2007 in order to exchange data. Go figure on that one.

Javier:
Thanks for the post, I was going to go on the $24.95 package, but I might go on the $19.95 package. That is available in my area, what should I get on the rebate package, should i get the high-speed modem, or the other item. I only have one computer, so I don't really need wireless right now for the computer. Thanks for the offer on office 2007, and I will definitely take you up on that. Right now I don't have Word and it is killing me. Thanks again and I will give you a call. Also, it looks like I might have to do the hook-up for the free installation, otherwise there is s $200 service charge. Is this something simple that I can do. Sounds like I am going to be installing a modem, and on that all in one system, that might be interesting. I don't even see screws in the back to remove the computer back to get inside?
