I'm having a problem with my monitor color display. It is defaulting to 16 colors, and when I change it to 256 or high color 16 bit, it wont apply. (Yes I reboot the system, but it comes back to the 16 color mode) I have tried reinstalling the drivers, deleting the monitor in the system properties panel and re-installing it but it always comes back the same.
The system also crashes when it tries to come out of monitor standby mode.

I'm using Win 98SE and a GeForce 2mx 400 card. The monitor is listed as a Relisys RE518.
The NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 400 driver file details are as follows:
-C\windows\system\NVDISP.DRV
- C\windows\system\NVMINI.VXD
-C\windows\system\VDD.VXD
File version 4.1301.2942

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Paul

Have you tried uninstalling the drivers through "Add/Remove Programs"?

I would download the latest drivers - use Add/Remove to get rid of the old ones, and install the newer drivers.

Have you done a re-install of Win98 lately?

Thanks for the help SuperSix.
I'll try that method, and I just downloaded the latest NVIDA driver so we'll see what hapens. I really want to exhaust all my options, before I do the Win98 re-install.

Ok, keep me updated - the reason I asked about the Win98 install was to see if you also had the latest motherboard chipset drivers installed as well.

Hey Mark, The driver update worked. All is well.
Now you have me thinking about the motherboard chipset drivers.
It's an Asus A7V333 board. I haven't upgraded the bios either. Hmmm.
What do you think... Am I opening Pandora's box here?

*I* would update the chipset drivers, Use these (Best version for Win98SE use)

Download these, unzip it to a temp folder, make sure all otehr applications are closed, and run SETUP.EXE from the directory you just created. Install all 4 choices, I usually install the AGP driver in Normal (Not turbo mode), and reboot. It may redetect a bunch of things, try to have your Win98SE CD ready.

Unless something's wrong or not working, there's no real reason to update the BIOS. Correct chipset drivers OTOH will make your system more stable, and possibly faster.

HTH
